More Strikes Announced By Stagecoach Drivers

Tuesday January 3 2012

MORE strikes have been announced by Stagecoach bus drivers in a row over pay.

The bus company insists that it will operate a near-normal level of service during the next round of strikes which will be tomorrow (January 4). 100 managers and supervisors have been drafted in to run the services between 7am and 6pm. A special £1 flat single fare for adults will apply on the day of industrial action involving drivers.

It follows six days of strike action by drivers during November and December 2011.

The union has also announced it is planning to take strike action on January 16.

the pasengers are the winners in all this. It was good b4 christmas to be able to get to town for shopping and such and instead of it costing £4 it was half price!

when you the Barnsley Public which one do you mean, cause they are happy to get the cheap fares but not the running from 7 to 7.  they are not happy with the abuse being shouted  at the Interchange. No the Barnsley Public are NOT all behind you most think that you are taking the cheek in asking for more as it was a fair amount more than most Barnsley Folk have got. and has for driving what they get they can afford to go on strike and have lost a lot in doing so, that for me says they get too much, in fact on talking to one driver he gets far more than me and my job is also demanding and i work with the public too

Drivers in Barnsley originally belonged to YORKSHIRE TRACTION and when Stagecoach took them over the drivers were kept on the same rate of pay.
Drivers in Sheffield originally belonged to ANDREWS and when Stagecoach took them over the drivers were kept on the same rate of pay.

THAT IS WHY THEY GET PAID DIFFERENT RATES OF PAY -- ALSO PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN SHEFFIELD HAVE BIGGER MORTGAGES / RENT PAYMENTS AS HOUSE IN SHEFFIELD COST 50% MORE THAN HOUSE/RENTS IN BARNSLEY

Guest - happens to work in a care home for less money than a bus driver gets.

We also have to put up with LOTS of abuse (much more than any bus driver) as well as getting punched, kicked, bit, pushed down stairs, hair pulled out... etc ... also doing 12 hour shifts back to back (a straight through 24 hours)

I knew what the job involved and the wage I was on --- so yes, I would glady swap places for you for a week and see how you cope in my job

get your facts right Yorkshire Traction OWNED Andrews, Yorkshire Terrier, Lincolnshire Roadcar, Supertram and various other companies in Scotland. Stagecoach wanted to get Sheffield but lumbered itself with all the others hence the slow dismantling of services. Which gave rise to the sudden rise of Tates travel, who then took over the rejected routes of Stagecoach.
All the Lads are asking for is a wage the same as the rest of Yorkshire Stagecoach drivers, would you do the same job as your your mate in the next town was doing for less money? and let your bosses boast about it? I doubt it very much. I don't work for Stagecoach, they are a jumped up bunch of aresholes in management who have never driven a bus, so therefore have no idea what the job actually entails ie:- the responsibility the abuse the pressure thats applied because they cannot understand that because everything they say works on paper, then it must work lol. I am a bus Driver from another company and have driven buses for the last twenty years, and these guys are out in some truly awful weather conditions and are always there for youcomewhat may, yes they may have to run late or you aren't satisfied because you are a little inconvenienced because they are late, there is always a reason , they have to put up with drunks and morons constantly , they are responsible for every life that is on their bus and around it, as well as the money they have to carry. More bus drivers have heart attacks due to stress than most other professions.

this strike is not working , i should be on £9.05 an hour not £8.74 i have lost nearly £200 in backpay blame the union not the company , when this mess is eventually sorted out i will be throwing out of the union and have my £3.75 a week back.

Reply Posted by bus driver on Thursday January 5 2012 at 22:31
yes mr townend you are correct , but the blatent and simple truth is blue collar workers can never win against such large companies we should have took the £9.05 , like you said yourself had the union put it to ballot it would have been accepted so in many respects the trade union are to blame for this action not the company .

WELL STEVE THATS WHAT YOU SAY, SO IN OTHER WORDS YOU WANT YOUR OLD MATES TO TAKE A PAY CUT OR ARE YOU REFERRING TO CHESTERFIELD WHO ARE UNDER YORKSHIRE BUT WITH LOCAL AGREEMENTS UNDER EAST MIDLANDS AND A DIFFERENT UNION. THATS YOUR PROBLEM MATE YOU CAN'T THINK OF A DECENT EXCUSE WHY THEY NEED A PAY RISE. WHAT IF CHESTERFIELD WAS PUT BACK UNDER EAST MIDLANDS THEN THE RISE WOULD NOT COME IN TO IT EH

It's kind of nice when Stagecoach are advertising how it's much easier and cheaper to use the bus services instead of using the car. When the strikes are on I'm unable to get home from work because I was stupid enough to be taken in by Stagecoach's advertising. It doesn't really endear them to the public.

Please, please, please. If you're going to comment then please try and make sense. I keep getting visions of Hitler ranting and raving and waving his arms about as I try to read your blustering waffle.

Extra days off with strike pay.  ;-)
Those drivers who say they can't afford to strike must be well in debt. We get strike pay which is not tooo far off our normal pay less stoppages.
I could last for years like this.
