THE Reds were held to a 1-1 draw in the South Yorkshire derby on Saturday.

Having come off the back of a much-needed 3-2 win against Middlesbrough, David Flitcroft's side started well against Sheffield Wednesday and took the lead through Marcus Pedersen with a powerful volley in the 16th minute.

David Perkins maybe should have added a second for the Reds after the half-time interval, but fired his shot over the bar.

Owls boss Dave Jones sent on Atdhe Nuhiu and the Austrian made an immediate impact in the entertaining derby, his deflected shot being pushed away by Jack Butland.

The keeper, on loan from Stoke, couldn't do anything about Matty Fryatt's thumping equaliser from the edge of the box.

"We're growing into the season," said Barnsley boss David Flitcroft. "I'm pleased we're getting better and finding some momentum.

"We did the game plan and it completely worked, the moment we have not focused allowed Sheffield Wednesday to get in.

"I was desperate for a clean sheet and it's disappointing - the quality of Pedersen's goal should win the football match."

Barnsley remain in the Championship's relegation zone, with nine points from 15 games. Next up for the Reds is a trip to mid-table Ipswich Town on Friday evening.

not good enough. we had the wendys on the rack. we don't have the killer instinct. they shuda been dead an buried at half time. flitcoroft in my view isn't good enough. we had the perfect opportunity to be 5 or 6 places from the bottom. were 2nd from bottom?..he brought some clown on calledjennings when we have a fantastic talent on the bench in the polish guy. he toof off paddy. he should have replaced the talent like for like. a result like that will come and haunt us at the end of the season..not good enough..!!!!!

Cywka does need more game time, always brings that spark if he gets on.
Perkins and Wiseman seem guaranteed fixtures in the team, when players like Dawson, Etuhu & Cywka add much much more.
Bobby may be off the pace after being left on the bench to gather dust, he won't be able to step backin and be at his best - but it is because they have kept faith with that clown wiseman that such a talent has been wasted, and although McNumpty gone on loan - I would be knarked if I was Steele that Wiseman still gets in the team when his fear of the ball putting rest of defence under pressure is the reason we concede so many goals - although he had a good game against Wednesday.

no way does flicker need to go!!!!!!!!. he needs to sort out the defence thats all. wendy's ran all over us in second half. i am disappointed in the attendance wots the point ov haveing a 23,000 seated stadium if they are going to lock a third off????? barnsley needs some investment. pitty butland is only on loan. we need to fill the seats and get behind flicker, hes saved barnsley once, and i have faith for him to get us out of the relegation spot.

The only game that would be a surefire sellout crowd every year. However this year and last Sky has put it on TV so you only get the season ticket holders then.
Local derbys should not be Live on Sky (Though Barnsley should be on more - look how many times Newcastle and West Ham were on when they were in championship - fairness required)

if we kep flicker. he will take us down. yes he saved us. weve had to many goals against us. he shuda gone after 2 games. we have the players now. but he doesn't know how to utilise them. his substitution theory is dire. don't forget we were very very lucky to stay up last season. had posh won we would have gone. the season b4 it was pompey who were deducted 10 points. tat kept us up. were not going to get investment. fact. what we need is someone who can take us a gear up. flicker doesn't have the ability to do this.

He just needs to give them a a good telling off at half time - we would be good if not for the poor second half performances. Against Reading we carried on playing to the end and didn't do the Barnsley head drop after conceding - I thought it was the beginning of the turn around - maybe not.
I understand he saved us through motivating a sunken team spirit last season. Now he keeps saying (with a bit of cheese) how well they are progressing and he's behind this team - he is dropping the wrong players and sticking behind the wrong players. Though McCourt looks supreme. Give Wiseman to Wednesday, or Shef.U, or Leeds, or Haavant and Waterlooville?
