Wednesday September 18 2013

TWO men have been bitten by a police dog which was being taken for a walk in Barnsley by his off-duty handler.

One of the men, 44, suffered a serious hand injury and the second, 19, received a minor injury to the leg, according to police.

At the end of the day this dog is raised and trained to attack, if you ask me its the dog handlers fault not the dogs, it should have been on a lead.

Blame the handler NOT the dog !!

It was on a lead. Why don't you wait for the full facts ?

I agree with Glen. I would expect as well that as they are trained to bite that they should be muzzled too. No need for a lengthy investigation, it's the handler who should be disciplined (& possibly charged with a crime) and the victims compensated.

I agree with Glen & Pam :-/

Why don't people await the full story before they start making their mouth.

police dog handler should be charged with neglect, and made to compensate the victims. The dog is not at fault it was only doing what it has been trained to do. The officer should have kept this dog under control after all that is his job

As above the dogs trained to attack,it's purely the handlers fault.prosecute him n not punish the dog....

These dogs are trained to attack there was obviously a good reason for them to bite these men these dogs don't attack just for the fun of it the dog handler or the dogs are not to blame

Get the facts before we start commenting. Having said that they will be a cover up. The dog needs to be placed with Responsible owners and the officer should be charged and disciplined for his lack of responsibility in a public place and anything else they can throw at him.

they will be a cover up will they???
I also like how you offer your suggestion of retribution after starting with 'Get the facts before we start commenting' seems a bit hypocritical.

Can't wait for the full story, talk about dangling a carrot lol. One thing not mentioned is what the 2 men were doing at the time.. ???

Reply Posted by db on Wednesday September 18 2013 at 18:03
the 2 men weren't doing anything wrong. I know one of them and he is a hard working respectable man. He went out to see what was going off and to make sure his daughter was ok as she was playing on the street. He went over to speak to the dog handler and the dog just went for him. The handler could have stopped him but he obviously didn't.

did the dog know it was off duty then?

This is a serious situation. However don't worry the dog and Police officer will be ok and the Victimns will be paid off so you don't here not else about it. Forgot to add with Tax Payers money.

its not the dogs its the owners to blame ; if he/she can't keep the dog under control they should be on traffic duty like the rest that can't do the job !

just to comment on the matter I was a 1st hand witness to the attack on both men the dog is unfit to be kept near public and the officer is worse than the dog he was just a few days before in the wood which he thinks he owns threatening kids to tidy up broken glass n tin cans with the dog saying he would let it off if they didn't tidy it up there was kids of ages 6/7 yrs upwards playing on the street at the time and it could have been any of them just as easy if it was a pit bull it would have been shot with out any thought yet at the scene the officer took off from the scene without any care for any1 who the dog had bit to then try covering it up by saying the 44 yr old man had pushed him no1 could get within 6ft of him because the dog was wanting to bite anything in its path so the officer let it go to attack the 44yr old man because he was saying he couldn't leave the scene from the 19yr old been bitten and dragged over the floor and if this dog is trained y did it not let go of the 19yr old when told to the funny thing is the police have taken at least 20 names and numbers but yet not 1 of us have been contacted n I was stood right next to it

rumour has it that the dog bit the 19 year old (minor injuries but scary none the less), Dad turns up, dog handler wants to take dog home to put the dog away. Dad stands in his path, says he wants him to stop and puts arms out to block exit, dog bites his hand. Dog doing its job looking after the handler in the later case.
A dog locked on takes some removing despite all the training

These dogs can only attack when ordered to do so......so if attacked n no order it should be put to sleep......cop should get done.....but i know 1 in donny did same years ago...dog damaged all nerves in blokes leg. N ripped some of leg off....bloke couldnt claim as he had a conviction but done nowt wrong in this case....so cops hide at back of their dogs....power n bullying who they want ....was anyone there before attack..as he said watch em before anyone came near...as this would be a command for the dog....
