Crews Tackle Blaze Throughout Night

Monday September 16 2013

SEVEN fire crews have been tackling a fire throughout the night.

Fire crews were called at 10:30pm on Sunday night to reports of a glass furnace on fire on Burton Road in Monk Bretton.

Crews have been tackling the fire throughout the night.

A large amount of molten glass is leaking from the furnace.

There are no reports of any injuries to anyone and there are no evacuations in place at the moment.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will begin once the incident is over.

OK I'll save you some cash, a furnace bust, job done. Just put the fire out & go and get some sleep, you deserve it

Put the fire out and go and go and get some sleep? We're not talking about a bucket full of glass here. Tonnes of molten glass will be pouring out and it needs to be constantly cooled or it sets on fire anything it touches.

What a pathetic statement go get some sleep, it not just chuck a bucket of water on it n it's out , it will take hours to get under control, it's red hot molten glass and needs to be cooled constantly , if you want to voice an opinion think before you speak !!!

some pathetic comments !!! Redfearns is a good place to work, and promote health and safety to the highest of standards, and would under no circumstances put their employees at risk, a member of my family were actually working their shift their last night at the time of the incident, and spoke very highly of the senior staff and managment and of course the fire service, who dealt with the fire's............

Seven fire crews?! I saw nine or ten! Nine/ten fire crews working through evening to early morning; knee deep in red hot molten glass. What worries me is - who's looking after the rest of South Yorkshire during this? Yet cuts are necessary! I'm sure the top mbrs of SYFR will think differently if its a family member in distress and the 'emergency' services are unable to attend.

And the South Yorkshire Fire Authority wants to cut night-time staffing at the Barnsley station?! Yet this fire alone needed between 7 and 10 crews last night - way more than there are in the BMBC area. Time for Labour councillors to think again! No cuts.
