Barnsley MP Gets MBE For Services To Armed Forces

BARNSLEY MP Dan Jarvis will be given an MBE from the Queen at Buckingham Palace today for services to the British Armed forces.

Dan, who served in the army for 15 years, was commissioned into The Parachute Regiment and served as Aide de Camp to General Sir Mike Jackson, in his role as overall commander of forces in Kosovo and as head of the British Army. Dan has also served with paras is Kosovo, Northern Ireland and Iraq.

Earlier this year, Dan became the first member of the British Army to resign his commission to stand for election to Parliament in over 50 years. Today marks the first time The Queen has ever given a serving MP a military honour.

Dan said: “I feel extremely honoured and humbled to receive this accolade. On a day like today, my thoughts are with the family and friends of the fallen.

"The army has afforded me friends and experiences that will stay with me for the rest of my life. I still believe that the Army offers young people in this country exceptional life and career opportunities.”
