Barnsley Lass Chosen For Olympic Torch Honour

Thursday December 8 2011

A BARNSLEY girl has been one of the few people across the country selected to be an official Olympic torch bearer.

Hollie Woodhouse, 15, from Stairfoot was nominated by her mum Jane for her numerous achievements at school and in dancing. Her application was supported by Foulstone School, which Hollie attends.

Mum Jane said Hollie was very hardworking and dances as an associate for the Northern Ballet - but that she was just a 'normal' Barnsley girl that is bowled over by the news.

She said: "She's very modest, we knew that she'd been shortlisted in September but we never for one moment thought that she would be selected.

"Normally things like this go to people who have done really big things in the community, or someone who has gone through hard times or overcome some trauma. We didn't think it would be her as she's just a normal girl. We just can't believe it."

Hollie will now await news from the Olympics Committee to find out her 'route.'
