Bus Operator Defends Itself After Sacking Driver

Stagecoach hits back Stagecoach hits back

STAGECOACH has defended itself after one of its drivers was sacked for failing to collect fares from a band who staged an impromptu concert on his bus.

Some members of the Frumptarn Guggen Band - along with a band they had invited over from Germany - caught the 66 Stagecoach bus to Worsbrough Mill where they were due to play.

The band's conductor, Keith Ramskill, said it seemed like a harsh action for the bus company to take.

"What a shame a lovely afternoon for almost everyone was spoiled by this," said Keith. "I'm surprised anyone complained as they seemed to enjoy the bands.

"We offered to pay the fare and we would like to repeat this offer to Stagecoach if they would reinstate this very kind man."

However, a spokeswoman for Stagecoach said: "The driver in question was not dismissed for a one-off incident involving ticket irregularity. He was dismissed as a result of several issues during the relatively short period he was employed by us.

"As always, we followed our full disciplinary procedure when dealing with this matter which included two levels of appeal."

If its true what I heard some drivers saying yesterday , stagecoach are over staffed and they just want a valid excuse to dismiss drivers to reduce their wage bill ... ?

stagecoach cant keep drivers and if you sat in works canteen all you hear will be drivers moaning about the company they work for. doubt there over staffed since they set on new drivers every 2 or 3 months.

If this is the case then it sounds fair to me..

to be honest he should have done his job to the full ,its like going in supermarket and getting a freebie ,its like you employing someone and them giving your stock/protits away, ive worked for bus companies in the past as a diesel fitter and they are very strict, theres no bull with them

Several issues?
They cant have been half as bad as the issue of the then Shafton depot manager when she was selling mobile phones from lost property. Or the inspector that was caught fiddling yet wasn't sacked. The driver in question wasnt doing something to line his own pockets. other people that do,keep there jobs or get a promotion.

That would be very interesting if it turned out to be true, Tom, but be careful of the libel laws if you can't prove it. You've accurately indentified someone there, and made an accusation of a criminal act against them, in writing, in public.
You say the inspector was caught, so that could be documented but, is there anything on record about her ladyship, or not? I'm guessing not.
