Family Pay Tribute To Kendray Murder Victim

Wednesday December 7 2011

THE FAMILY of a man who was stabbed to death in Kendray on Tuesday (December 6) say they are devestated by their loss.

Sammy Lee Haughton, 29, from Kendray, Barnsley was found in a garden on Colley Cresent, Kendray. He was treated by paramedics, but died a short time later at the scene.

His family released this tribute through the police: "Sammy was loved by his family and we are devestated by the loss of a son, brother and dad.

"We ask that if anyone has any information about Sammy's death to contact the police."

A 36-year-old local man was arrested shortly after the incident on suspicion of murder and is in custody being questioned by police.

Detectives are now conducting house-to-house enquiries in the area to gather information about the crime.

South Yorkshire Police are appealing for anyone with information about this murder to please call 101 quoting incident number 48 of 6 December.

24hrs after the Chronical Reported it! Piss poor!

Think that's a very unfair comment actually - it appeared on our Facebook wall within minutes of it happening - and this is the third piece we have written on it. Not that it matters, but if you look elsewhere on our homepage you will see the earlier stories that we carried at the same time of other media....

WAB had more respect for the victim and family as they waited for official statement from police before releasing info.

Neither the Chronicle or WAB are responsible for the piece, they are merely repeating or rehashing the statement the police released most of the "news" on WAB and chronicle is reported in this way, generally statements from public bodies or second or third hand. Not that there is anything wrong with this as it still gets the word out.

Kelly We are Barnsley and The Barnsley Comical are ran by the same company.

Actually that is not entirely correct Guesty. We Are Barnsley is owned by Acredula - the group which also owns the Barnsley Chronicle. But we are two totally separate organisations: different staff, different ethos, different office. Many organisations in the media are owned by the same organisation but aren't run by the same people (ask Rupert Murdock!) FYI Acredula also own Script Media, Script Video Production, Memories of Barnsley, Pen and Sword Books and many more...but WAB has no say in running those either. WAB is run by WAB. Hope this clears it up.

As I said nothing wrong with this as it still gets the word out.

but ultimately ran by the same company, as I wrote? why so defensive?

Reply Posted by on Wednesday December 7 2011 at 16:03
Not defensive at all - just trying to clarify. It isn't run by the same company though... :-) WAB is run by WAB :-) Anyhoo, back to the original post - sad times indeed for our town :-(.

Indeed, seems to be more and more violent crime in Barnsley these days, or is it we are just more aware of it?

Reply Posted by on Wednesday December 7 2011 at 16:20
I think probably the latter tbh...with social media nowadays people find out things so much faster. I think it seems like there's more crime, because we find out about it more. I don't necessarily believe that there is more violent crime though (certainly not according to the official stats)
