Petition Started After Stagecoach Route Changes

Thursday August 15 2013

A PETITION has been started protesting recent changes in Stagecoach bus routes.

David Cole, of the High Street Committee, said he has been inundated with complaints from Wombwell traders and his own customers at Cole Bros Café, arguing Wombwell has been 'cut off' from surrounding areas.

Buses no longer stop at Illsley Road, Morrison Road, Bly Road and Upperwood in Darfield since the changes were implemented on July 20.

Residents in Hemingfield and Houghton have also complained of cuts in services to Wombwell while routes to Barnsley and Rotherham have been improved.

Stagecoach heralded the changes as the biggest in the Dearne Valley for 20 years, arguing they had come following a period of consultation and were designed to increase the use of public transport, improve services and make them better value for money.

But David said: "We've had at least ten of our members come to us saying customers have told them they're being expected to carry their shopping down to Station Road to get a bus back to Darfield.

"People have been telling us they now have to get a bus from Darfield to Stairfoot and then another one to Wombwell, which they're not going to do, because it's easier just to go on to Barnsley. We're not happy about it - it's driving people away from Wombwell."

Staff at Potters said many of their Darfield customers had complained about how difficult it now was for them to get there and Ali Rasool, of ZA Akram, said the pharmacy has had to deliver prescriptions to people in Darfield this week who can no longer travel to Wombwell.

David, who lives in Bolton, added councillors in Wath had successfully campaigned to resinstate a bus service lost through Stagecoach's changes and the same could be done in Wombwell.

"If Wath councillors can turn it round, so can ours, so we need their support. Together we can get something done about this."

Cllr Dick Wraith and Cllr Brian Key have contacted Rupert Cox of Stagecoach already, in order to discuss the matter.

"People are saying they can't get to the doctors from Darfield and shopkeepers are saying some of their customers aren't coming anymore," said Cllr Wraith. "This is a big thing."

Why doesnt someone just buy a bus and run round darfield and wombwell after all theres no other competition.
Maybe someone would get rich with all the passengers they would get...Not.....

You nake it sound like we live in 1813 rather than 2013.
80% f people own a car 2% own a cycle.
1% own a mobility scooter.
95% own a tv 98% own a phone or internet.
99.9%have legs. And 99.9% can get a taxi to wombwell or visa versa.
1813.
0% had a car.
0% had a phone
0% had mobility scooters
0% had a bus
0% had a taxi
0% had a bike
are you getting the point yet

Routes are nothing to do with Stagecoach - the routes are planned by the same people that own the bus station (SOUTH YOURKSHIRE PASSENGER TRANSPORT EXECUTIVE ------ Or SYPTE for short)

All Stagecoach do is bid for the routes they are offered by SYPTE

JJ whether true or not, your post is downright vile. Be proud of that one.

i have worked on the buses as a driver from 85/91 and although it was yorkshire traction then and it is stagecoach now it is the same animal.there is now only 1 bus an hour, from darfield to wombwell, but guess what ,they have put a bus on(22x)every 15 mins.this is a service that is designed to take passengers/run off the road fisrt bus company/we have to settla for 1 bus an hour, whilest manvers has a bus for every 2 passengers.for the older passengers remember the x20 service barnsley/wombwell/doncaster this srevice was cancelled by yorkshire traction.a private/smaller company started runnning it again.what happened, yorkshire traction ran a x20 service 5 mins in front of this service/ran the private company off the road and guess what happened next they cancelled the x 20.beware they dont want to run certain services/but they dont want anybody else to either.whats happening is all designed to make first bus company cancel their 22 service yet they have cut services to 1 an hour from darfield to wombwell and im certain they have cut other services to 1 an hour.so they can run a service where every 2 people can have a bus to themselves.i hope ther is uproar to the changes/i felt i had to let people know the real reason behind us losing our services.

Andrew - the 22X is run and operated from the RAWMARSH depot (ROTHERHAM) -- it is NOT a BARNSLEY bus and has not taken any of the Barnsley buses off the road
