Police Called To Barnsley Pub After After Needle Incident

Monday August 5 2013

The Courthouse The Courthouse

POLICE were called to the Courthouse pub in Barnsley - after a woman was found in the toilets with a hypodermic needle in her arm.

Ambulance crews attended the Regent Street pub first when the woman, aged 35 and from Barnsley, was discovered at 2.25pm last Friday.

It was first thought she had suffered a drug overdose. She then became 'quite agitated' and police were called in as a precautionary measure.

The woman gave the empty hypodermic to ambulance staff and was taken to Barnsley Hospital.

Why people want to do drugs is beyond me. Doesn't give them a sense of purpose or achieve anything. Just sets a bad example for society and drug users are getting younger!!

It's worrying that they do it so publicly - my son has just started to go out and he's diabetic and has to take his insulin with him - but people might think he's a drug user if they see him inject - its not fair on the people who actually need meds that they might get tarred with the same brush as those who just shoot up for the hell of it

I've known a few diabetics over the years and recall being told that 'appearing to be drunk' can be an indicator of NOT having their insulin........and a prelude to hypoglycemic shock. Is that right? Also, one of my friends had one of those pressure pens, can't your son use one of them as opposed to traditional syringes when he goes out?

Dont worry pauline, im not diabetic or medically trained but i know the difference between insulin needles and the needles used by heroin addicts so im sure the bouncers and police wil know as well. #peaceofmind

your son should ask the hospital if he can have insulin pump as everything is done by bluetooth

You lot make me sik with ur nasty horrible comments especially when none of ya know any reason as t y these kids are on drugs and b4 ya judge me no I'm not a "DRUGY"or a "SMACKHEAD" as u so delicately put it but I know someone who is and if u knew the reason which I'm not goin to tell you would b ashamed of urselves let's just hope none of ur kids from ur "PERFECT" families go the same way. And pauline if ur son has started going out then let's hope he's not drinkin alcohol eh cos wouldn't that be abusing his medical condition if he's diabetic erm yes I think it would RANT OVER

Someone who cares.. there is never a valid excuse to start taking drugs. It's ILLEGAL and its IMMORAL and its also a drain on society with all the police time they waste and all the pointless methadone programmes in place for when they're running low on their gear. No sympathy for any of them.

I'm sure if you are a diabetic and insulin dependent then there is something you can and would do if you needed to inject in a public place, surely the person involved if she was a diabetic would be aware of the misunderstanding it could cause and would have spoken to a member of staff and they would have provided somewhere to go to do so in comfort and privacy, if the toilets were the only place to go then it would have been closed and supervised to ensure public safety, and the person involved world have eventually explained why she was using the needle it would have been clearly stated in the story. Anyone who justify it and makes excuses for these people need to give themselves a serious reality check and stop being so nieve, ive been through hell and back in life maybe not as much as some, but enough to still be suffering for it now, I at 25 years old have NEVER! touched a single drug in my life. Drugs are amongst other things, ruining this treacherous world and as a mother of two it makes me scared to bring my children up in it.

Jayne. I feel sorry that u lost ur sister but u can't lay the blame at substance misuse either. Last year I lost my mum my sister in law and my 4yr old nephew none of them to drugs either all suddenly and all in the space of 4mnths but I would never wish anyone dead And to all the other IGNORANT ppl that's slagging em off ya know nothing about substance misuse.

This woman was not a courthouse customer she had just gone in to use the toilets, she did not go to the bar nor have a drink she has not been seen in the pub before and anyone found using drugs is always asked to leave and barred

Reply Posted by c on Wednesday August 7 2013 at 00:56
She had already used the needle when she was found passed out in the toilets and she had injected into her groin not her arm, she did not hand the needle over she had it taken from her that's why she was agitated, a drug user needs there needles and she did not want it taking away. But used needles are dangerous so it was taken from her so nobody could get hurt. The police were called because she wouldn't hand the needle over.
