KEEN runner and cyclist Mike Schofield is jumping on his bike to raise money for Brain Tumour Research.

Mike, who is a school improvement and communications officer at Shafton Primary, will take on the gruelling 100-mile challenge on August 4.

He, along with 20,000 fellow bikers, will set off from the Olympic stadium in a muscle-aching route that will see him take on Box Hill in Surrey - the same incline tackled by cycling superstar Bradley Wiggins.

Mike, 44, said the children are well behind his fundraising efforts.

He said the school raises money for various charities and Brain Tumour Research was chosen as it is close to the heart of the school community.
Mike has been training hard for the race - cycling into school every day, although he says the Barnsley hills have been keeping him fit.
