Cable Theft Spate Hits Grimethorpe - Safety Warning

Wednesday November 23 2011

POLICE in Barnsley have issued a public safety warning after a spate of cable theft in Grimethorpe has been recorded over the last two weeks.

Overhead cables have been stolen in four separate incidents from the village in a move with has prompted the National Grid to ask police for help in publicising the dangers.

A police spokesman said: "In the areas where these cables are there are now in excess of 60,000 volts there. If these are touched they can cause fatal injuries.

"We advise people not to go anywhere near them as there have been a number of fatal incidents in other areas of the country due to high voltage cables."

Anyone who has any information on the cable thefts should contact the police on 101.
