Month-Long Campaign Ends With Sixty Notices Issued

Tuesday July 2 2013

Penalties issued Penalties issued

A MONTH-LONG campaign of action on cars left for sale on council-owned land has just ended - and some 60 notices have been issued.

The campaign, which was carried out by the council throughout June, follows reports from residents across the borough and local ward councillors.

There's been a history of complaints regarding cars parked up for sale and left unattended, as the sites they choose to occupy are often far from ideal.

Cars often block the line of site for other road users and some are left on footpaths, preventing safe pedestrian access.

There's also the unwanted effect of drivers slowing down to look at the details of these cars - a potential hazard for road users and pedestrians.

"We will continue to monitor this issue and take action where required," said Cllr Roy Miller. "Owners selling cars in this way should expect prompt action by the council’s enforcement team."

Yes Councillor Miller, residents should expect prompt action in matters such as this, but very rarely do we get it. Hollow words (again) from councillor Miller.

Get your finger out man

This action should also be taken against the residents who park on the same land, can't be hypocrites now can we Councillor?

typical council scumbags,.. the cars are not doing any harm, many people cant afford a new car so rely on picking up a cheap run about from where people park them at side of road,.. try fixing the potholes instead of picking on motorists, council, what a joke lol,..

they're not potholes though, the bloody roads are totally worn out. The word ''pothole'' is used as an excuse to blame winter weather then they send a bloke with a bag or tarmac and a shovel to ''mend'' it. Just out of curiosity, do BMBC actually have a road maintenence budget? if so, what the hell do they spend it on?

these are part time car dealers who do live somewhere, they are not homeless so they should try selling their cars from outside your own house and not someone else's. Or rent a car-lot like a real car dealer and pay taxes and give warranty

I agree King louis if someone stuck a buisiness there like a sarny van or a market stall they would be hell on, so why should these folk get a free pitch he he

All the people stating that they would be happy to let these would be car dealers carry on. I wonder how many of these sell their cars in such a way. I also wonder how many of said morons fall out with their neighbours over such actions. I also wonder why they always try and change the subject around to something else.

Everytime the council or the Police or any other group try to improve the lot of everyday people some loud mouthed yob moans about it. We need to improve society not bow down to the louts within it.

car dealers have to pay an amount for each car sales spot on thier premises within the business rates. So yes the illegal car sellers should be stopped.

I Agree With John Smith's Comment. That Stretch Of Park Road Has Maybe A Dozen Cars Parked On The Grass. This Has Turned The Grass Verges Into A Right State!

It's a shame that the council don't have the balls to tow & crush some of these car's...are the car's insured ?...maybe these illegal car "dealers" might think twice about plonking there cars where they shouldn't if they had a few crushed. I live very near to where the cars are parked. It's a nightmare when your trying to cross the road. I was trying to cross with my 3 year old when a car ran up the pavement to stop & have a look at one of the car's parked up...how the hell ether of us wasn't clipped is a miracle.

running children over julie, you should have been watching the road and surrounding area instead of topping up your lippy in the rear view.

do they pay tax on selling the cars prob scum that sign on.. get a job u filthy scroungers. if its so good buy a decent house too...

To every one for this you obviously don't know where this is, it is a piece of grassland sat back of the main road not outside someones house and no one is going to get knocked down from running in between the cars and near a main road parents should have the sense to watch children. To deal with the part time car dealers make sure they have a valid business cos i can guarantee half of them will be claiming benefits too. but i live on cemetery road there are no parking facilities at all through the day we can park there at night but i think thats even more of an hazard than park road where this is happening, numerous cars get there wing mirrors knocked of including mine which was £300 to fix so i dont blame them for parking there, and if i wanted to sell my car i would put it there because its a prime place. Its not affecting any ones views even the drivers view which is one of the councils excuses i drive up there at least 10 times a week and my view as never been restricted its just another money making council scheme that they sit and pay people to come up with, just get rid of the people that invent these schemes and it will save a hell of a lot of us tax payers money.

and Towed Al the grass verge is in a right state because of residents parking if you notice 95% of the cars that go on there are not for sale.

They should be moved I know this area very well and I tripped over there because of the car's on the pavement and nearly broke my ankle they should be moved and if not towed away and crushed and by the way my dad was a councillor and worked very hard for the community our house was always open to anyone that had a problem we had people knocking on our door all the time but my dad didn't mind because he worked for them.

cars pay road tax, to use roads.NOT PAVEMENTS.

Reply Posted by Real gim on Thursday July 4 2013 at 17:51
Actually you pay vehicle excise license fees. Which is basically a tax to the government. It is not road tax. The council get money in their budget for fixing roads. Your VEL is nothing to do with it anymore.

However I do agree that they should not be there. Plus Barnsley has by laws in place that state people cannot do it. So it is illegal, Simple really. or should we have a sliding scale of criminality where some is ok and some is not?
