Barnsley Businessman Guilty In £25m Drugs Ring

Monday June 10 2013

Stead found guilty Stead found guilty

A BARNSLEY businessman has been found guilty of his role in a drug trafficking gang.

Richard Stead, of Greenfoot Lane, Wilthorpe, denied two charges of conspiracy to supply drugs including cocaine and MCat between June 1, 2010 and August 17, 2012 but was convicted on both counts at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday.

Stead, 45, was described by prosecutor David Brooke as 'high up the chain' of the criminal outfit, which flooded the country with more than £25million worth of drugs.

Mr Brooke said the cocaine was imported into the country from Guadalajara, Mexico, during a two--year period with 1kg discs of cocaine being concealed in the hydraulic arms of scissor lifts.

Each lift could hold 24 kilos and the prosecution stated some 200 kilos was brought in by the gang during that time.

Any body found dealing in drugs should be put down not sent to prison for us to look after, they are the scum of the world, and cause nothing but misery.

Exactly puts peoples lives in danger so they can live the high life , you deserve all you get !

Reply Posted by mick on Monday June 10 2013 at 11:41
I just hope they confiscate the proceeds from his criminality, or when he gets out he will still be living the high life with interest.

Hmmm. "put down' , 'lowest of the low'
How about he was a succesful buisnessman turing his talents to one of the most profitable industries on the plant - that current policies drive underground and into the hand sof criminal gangs.
All currently illegal drugs should be legalised , controlled and regualated.
The War on Drugs has failed and a new global approach is needed.

Take it you don't have any kids Jim!

Reply Posted by jan on Monday June 10 2013 at 13:18
makes you wonder how he became such a successful buisnessman in 1st place, prob drug dealing payed for it in first place.or was his buisness failing so needed to make more money.and all that tax free money he's earned over the 2yrs of doing it. he shud have all his assets taken off him

Reply Posted by Paul on Monday June 10 2013 at 13:28
Its not a case of having kids and the harm that drugs can do to society, its the fact that the current legislations in place to try and tackle this problem just doesnt and isnt working. I totally agree that substances should be regulated in some way and that a decriminalisation of such things should also be there, its a problem that is never ever going to go away so why not get it sorted out right at long last? After all, alcohol and tobacco are both legal and cause more deaths,, crime(beer) than a lot of drugs but its because of the simple fact that governments make that much money out of the 2 through either taxes and consumer numbers that nothing gets said, smoking kills nearly 2.5 million people per year but nothing ever seems to be said because of it being legal. The whole drugs argument is one that will go on and on and on forever its always been a grey area and i personally can never see it changing, especially not in this country !!!!! You can get sentenced to more time in prison for a lot of drug related crime than you can for murder !!! How in the hell can that be right ????

Hi Vic

Yes i have a child and they are savvy enough (14) to know that alcohol and tobacco are drugs, that all drugs ( legal & illegal ) can be dangerous but that the curretn ssytem does not work in helping our society deal with these substances. They have formed their own opinions and im happy to day that they have concluded much the same as me - drug policy has failed and we need a new framework.
I take it as pretty much certain that at some point they will experiment with legal & illegal drugs - i hope that they have enough infomratino to make informed chices abtou this and that they have enough protective factors in their lives to not become dependent or problematic drug users.

Also the idea that drugs are illegal to protect children /society is one that is not supported by the evidence - if we wanted to protect society then we would control and regulate like we do with other potantially dangerous activities such as driving or drinkign alcohol.

I would be very surprised if there was anything near 25 million gone through their hands but right or wrong you know your going away for a long time if you get caught well before anyone gets into this kind of crime.
