Ice Skating Rink Comes To Town

Wednesday November 9 2011

A TEMPORARY ice-skating rink will be built in Barnsley Town Centre as part of this year's Christkindlmarkt celebrations.

From Thursday 24 to Sunday 27 November there will be the temporary rink on Cheapside alongside the other traditional food and gift stalls.

Also new this year, is a marquee that will celebrate the talents of artists called 'Handmade In Barnsley.' The marquee, which is near the ice rink, will feature local designers showing their hand-crafted jewellery, clothing, home textiles, ceramics and leather handbags.

The Frumptarn Guggen Band will be performing at the Barnsley Guggen Music Festival in town on November 26 and the whole Christkindlmarkt event will close with a firework finale at 5.30pm on November 27.

If the 'ice rink' is as good as last years, don't bother :( We need a proper Ice- skating rink in Barnsley!

although this seems like a good idea for the festivities, I do agree with the comments above! I have tried these rinks before and as it is manufactured 'ice' it kind of takes the fun out of it, when you stop moving your feet you come to a halt instead of 'gliding..

Yes a real ice rink would be fantastic Barnsley council that would save us going to Sheffield and doncaster with our young boy who is autistic and has an obsession with ice skating
