THE patron of Barnsley Independent Alzheimer's and Dementia Support has welcomed two grants to help them in their quest to build a dedicated centre for the town's 3,000 sufferers.

Barnsley East MP Michael Dugher said the two grants of £20,000 and £10,000 from the Barnsley Health and Social Care Innovations Fund would help centralise BIADS, which is currently split between two sites, and provide more services for sufferers and their carers.

The group wants to create a centre for dementia and Alzheimer's sufferers and has launched a campaign to raise £45,000.

The two grants takes the total raised so far to £32,000.

Mr Dugher said: “I'm honoured to be the patron of BIADS and the award of these grants is fantastic news.

“This money means BIADS can move forward with their plans to centralise their operation to one permanent centre and look forward to a bright future.

“I have seen firsthand, the fantastic work BIADS do in helping their ever growing number of members. The staff and volunteers who work there are truly inspiring.”
