Barnsley IT Project Launches Today

Tuesday November 8 2011

A PROJECT has launched today which will teach community groups how to make the most of the internet.

The three-year project - managed by national charity Citizens Online - is open to anyone interested in learning more about IT and the Internet.

Project Coordinator Alison Vint is hosting a launch event at The Ozone, Oakwell Stadium until 3pm today. She said: "It is really exciting to be working on this project in Barnsley at this time when there is such a buzz about getting online.

"I am looking forward to meeting up with community groups and individuals who may not yet have had chance to find out about the benefits of the internet and hope people will take the opportunity to come down."

Great Idea, I just hope there is some take up, especially for the older end of the age spectrum. The internet is a fantastic tool and we should be encouraging people who think it's not for them to overcome their fears and get them literate enough to be able to take their first steps. Ultimately I think that cost will be that main factor for people in getting online, you're talking a couple of hundred for a pc or laptop then connection, then monthly fees, its a big commitment if you're not sure you will be able to grasp it.

Great idea, everyone should have the opportunity to get all the benefits that come from being ON LINE.  Hope you get a lot of take up.
