Two die after Shafton crash Two die after Shafton crash

A SECOND man has died after a collision near Shafton.

Two men from Grimethorpe were travelling in a silver Peugeot 306 convertible on Engine Lane.

The car struck a street lamp and continued along the footpath. It came to a halt after plowing through a garden, causing extensive damage to the front of Carl and Julie Jackson's house.

Josh Powell, an 18-year-old soldier, died at the scene after the impact.

Family and friends have posted tributes to Josh on social networking websites.

He completed his training for the British Army last year and became a member of The Light Dragoons regiment.

The 25-year-old man sustained life-threatening injuries, but died two days after the crash.

It is unclear who was driving the car but the two men are believed to have been the only occupants.

Reply Posted by Louise on Wednesday May 22 2013 at 21:21
People do silly things and everyone makes mistakes in life,no one will ever no what truely happened that morning, but I think you should keep your options to yourself Janice have you no respect?there family's and friends are going through enough without having to read nasty things about there 2 lads..

It's a shame when young lives are lost this way - very sad for the family left behind, but how many 'boy-racers' reading this will slow down as a result? Very few probably, we all only change our habits with age & our own experiences.

I hope the people whose house was hit do not end up footing the bill for repairs & that they are not too traumatised by the incident.

Reply Posted by morgan on Wednesday May 22 2013 at 21:28
No need for that comment at all Janice and the end of the day everybody makes mistakes and everyone deserves a second chances but sadly these boys can't! Nobody deserves to read that about their friends or family, next time keep your opinions to yourself. Rest in peace boys,my thoughts go out to all! X

First let me say R.I.P to Josh & Danny may god be with you and my deepest sympathy to both family and friends of these two young boys.
Now I read comments what people have left and a few of of you are disagreeing with the comment Janice had said, well has hard has it my be what Janice is saying maybe true!!!! It also maybe not true but what we have to understand is these two young boys have lost there lifes and im sure people will agree the outcome could have been much worse, they careered into a lampost which ended up in someones garden they careered on a footpath somebody could have been walking on,they went into someones house were there was children in ,now if any of these people, now if any of these people were your family or even your friends would you be slating them?'??No I think not even if they was in the wrong,we should be grateful no one else was hurt or killed in this accident and be supportive to the family and friends that have lost there lifes.they didn't intentionally go out to hurt anyone but it turned into tragic circumstances, lets be gratefull for the ones still lucky enough to survive, and pay our respects to the ones that got taken too soon.R.I.P Boys you were far too young X

Reply Posted by cheryl. on Thursday May 23 2013 at 06:51
new feeds on here should not give people the oppurtunity to write their opinions at such a sad time............ what happened on that night to cause the death of the two young men will eventually come out from the press, whether their actions were irresponsible driving, drunk, driving or driving without a seatbelt, they have paid the price with their lives, their families must be inconsoulable in and a deep state of shop, please abolish the comment box from your news WAB and let the families grieve for their son's..... and please please let this be a warning to other drivers, we all take that risk when driving, including myself............. but for these poor lads it didnt pay off, more and more are getting killed by car crashes, mostly our next Generation

22years ago, my son of 7 and myself were crossing the road, we were hit by a car, i sustained serious head injuries and had to be induced into a coma, due to swelling in my brain, when i woke up 5 weeks later i was told the news that my baby boy had died instantly at the schene of the incident........ after weeks of investigation, the driver of the car who survived with hardly a scratch had beeen 2.5 times over the limit with alchol.......... his excuse was he'd been to an office party !!!!...............thanks to this man's lack of come sense, irresponsability, selfishness, and carelessness....... my little died, through no fault of his own................. look at the bad crash the other week, a poor young girl going to a Hen weekend lost her life, through someone;s wreckless driving !!!...............so all of you who slayter Janice for her comment, sit and re read it because she's is right in a way, there could have been more fatalities, due to some one elses incompetence.....
