Our Thoughts Today For McKenzie Yates

Thursday November 3 2011

McKenzie Yates McKenzie Yates

AN anonymous benefactor has stepped forward to pay for the funeral of little McKenzie Yates.

McKenzie, four, united Barnsley with his brave battle against his terminal brain tumours and - after enjoying a last family holiday to Center Parcs - he lost his fight just after his birthday.

His funeral will be today at St John's Church in Cudworth at 2pm, and the family say anyone would be welcome to go and pay their respects.

Mum Stacey said: "Just wana say a massive thankyou to the WAB Crew for your suport from the begining of McKenzie til the end. You have been fab and I would be honoured to allow any guys who would like to attend McKenzie's send off to the angels.

"He was fantastic and we know he held on for his weekend holiday at Center Parcs. We have brill memories - especially when a duck bit his finger."

The family do not know who has picked up the tab for McKenzie's send off - but would like to say thankyou.

It was thanks to a very generous supporter of When You Wish Upon A Star, who felt it was one way of showing MacKenzie's family that their grief was shared.  This was shown by others too in recent weeks- after we had arranged the holiday to Centerparcs the Barnsley Taxi Drivers Association came forward to transport the family, and another two supporters donated a digital camera and camcorder so that the memories could be captured forever.  The Cudworth Fire Station guys have also been amazing, turning up to MacKenzie's birthday at our request, and today they honoured him with blue flashing lights from the fire engine as he made his last journey into church.  Sleep tight little MacKenzie and rest in peace.  Your strength and determination and that of you family is what makes us keep wanting to make more and more special dreams to come true.  Joanne and Pat from When You Wish Upon A Star (Facebook:  Joanne's When You Wish Upon A Star page).
