BARNSLEY director Don Rowing believes it's a formality that David Flitcroft will sign a new contract with the club.

The 39-year-old took over on a deal until the end of the season after Keith Hill's departure in December.

Flicker turned the Reds' season around and Saturday's draw with Huddersfield saw them retain their Championship status.

"He's spoken with us and hopefully it won't be too long until he puts pen to paper," Mr Rowing said.

Meanwhile, the club have announced that they're releasing fan-favourite defender Stephen Foster, 32, who was Barnsley's second longest-serving player.

The club has offered new deals to goalkeeper Luke Steele, defenders Martin Cranie, Bobby Hassell, Jim McNulty and Tom Kennedy, midfielder Tomas Cywka and striker Jason Scotland.
