Tuesday May 7 2013

Incident in Lundwood Incident in Lundwood

POLICE have confirmed that a 24-year-old local man has been arrested in relation to a sexual assault.

The incident came to light last week after many people on We Are Barnsley's Facebook page commented about a heavy police presence in the Littleworth Lane area.

The unnamed man has been bailed pending further enquiries until June, as the investigation continues.

i think its disgusting the police didnt warn the public earlier. Putting others at risk is wrong.

I don't think anyone can assume the gender of the person involved at this present time, women can commit sexual offences too. Also its safe to say that its wrong to say that the Police have put others in risk by not releasing the statement sooner - there clearly is no current serious risk towards the public otherwise it would be stated.

Dont know what this world is coming to, hope they find the person responsible....

Oh my god i have just been offered a move there and i have 3 children to think about

first an attempted abduction of 2 kids at littleworth school, then an assault on a young girl at grimethorpe, then an assault on a young girl in lundwood, how can you possibly say there is clearly no risk waber, until whoever is responsible for these attacks is caught then im sorry but in my eyes there clearly is a risk towards the public

Reply Posted by WAB'er on Friday May 3 2013 at 12:18
There are risks everywhere you look, X. Everyday somewhere in Barnsley something happens whether it be petty crime or an attempted sexual assault. There will always be paedophiles and rapists unfortunately and in my eyes they should have it chopped off or sewn up but unless the person believed to have done this isn't in police custody then there isn't a serious threat to anyone, if he was on the run then yes, there would be a serious worry and threat to the public. Blaming the police and saying that they're putting people at risk is just wrong and uncalled for, they're doing their job and their job is to protect the public.

What they were wrong in doing was not informing the school, who could warn parents to be on there guard and talk to the children about the importance of telling ppl where u are and making sure ur not alone. This person has not been found he is still out there. I know one of the girls who is part of this attempted abduction I saw the police at the school but it was only through word of mouth that us parents found out what was going on. Which is therefore highlighting the need for schools, the police and parents to all work closely together to do their best to keep children safe... Do we really want or need another April Jones or Holly and Jessica, Sarah Payne?... The list is endless, and yes it will happen again somewhere but if everyone actually communicated then maybe just maybe we could be half way there to saving another childs life... Ppl wanna think that before spouting crap getting on their high horse!!!

I never knew that there had been an attempted abduction at Littleworth. My son goes there and I've not heard anything about this.

Surely the school should make parents aware??

Reply Posted by x on Friday May 3 2013 at 13:28
there has been nothing said anywhere that this person is in custody waber which as far as people know means they are on the run so therefore does pose a serious threat.if there is the slightest chance our kids could be in danger from this person then i think we have a right to know,as the old saying goes prevention is better than cure, and not everyone has access to the internet to find out whats happening. fore warned is fore armed

I don't see how I'm being on my high horse when I'm stating facts. I have children so I know what its like to worry. Of course communication helps but you can't just go saying the police are putting people at risk because you're peeved that they've not wrote enough for you in the statement. You can't expect them to put out a WANTED poster for them saying, "Look out for this person, we think they've sexually assaulted someone". And I never said that they were in custody either. What I said is that we don't know as nothing has been stated so we can't go blaming the Police for not putting the statement out there sooner. If they're suspicious of someone then they can't just go saying their name incase they're wrong, if this person posed a threat by being known and on the run then they would do their best. They did it as quick as they could and with the info that they could disclose for you.

the facts are waber there was an attempted abduction of 2 young children and 2 young girls have been sexually assaulted no one is saying the police should name suspects. i think the general feeling is that people should have been warned sooner that there was someone out there praying on our kids and to be extra vigilant,i dont think that is asking too much

I don't think anyone is actually reading what I'm writing properly at all. Awful to hear stuff like this, especially when it involves children. No one knows whether these things are connected. If you or your children were in first hand danger because this sicko was on the run then they would tell you. I haven't seen anything on here of an attempted abduction or any police statement so I'm just going to assume that is playground speculation amongst parents? If it has been confirmed then can you point me in the right direction of the police statement please?
Yes its a scary world out there and we'd all give our lives and limbs to protect our babies but its out of line to actually blame the police for putting others at risk. They didn't just throw the casefolder on the table and say "ah I'm leaving that I'm off to McDonald's", there is obviously so many people dealing with this case that will put their heart and soul intto protecting kids.

That is becauseyou cannot knock nails in knots. Most of the people commenting on here have no understanding of how the law works and yet they would not appreciate being falsely accused of something. Nor will they be happy about anything the Police does because most of them have been on the wrong side of the law.

I and other normal people of at least middling intelligence or above do understand you and you make some very good points. Unfortunately some on here are not so bright.

sorry waber but they dont have police swarming all over outside school morning and afternoon on the grounds of playground speculation and im sure the parents of these 2 terrified kids would'nt thank you for that remark, and your statement just confirms what im saying, if people had been made aware of what had happened to these kids then maybe the parents of the 2 girls assaulted may have been more likely to keep their girls close to home

I don't think the parents of the children from the alleged attempted abduction can get mad at me from thinking it could have been playground speculation when I've not seen anything like a police statement. Malicious speculation can happen sometimes to scare people. All I asked is if there is a report clarifying that the attempted abduction is true?

Don't blame the police blame wab! They let the public know half a story and let idiots comment stupid things..

Reply Posted by We Are Barnsley on Tuesday May 7 2013 at 13:03
Actually, we've put what we know in its entirety. I've chased the police around for days for the little information they've given us, so this is very annoying to read. This isn't us only giving you half of the story, it's us telling you everything we know. It's not our fault if the police release brief statements. They're investigating an incident, so no, do not blame us. We're giving every bit of information we know, like we always do.

Love how you all assume he's guilty. I'm not saying he isn't but do you seriously know how many alleged rapes/sexual assaults are made up by women and teenage girls.
It makes it so hard for the genuine victims to be believed.

Wish some people would get the facts right before spouting of on this page. This country will never bring back hanging or anything like that. The POLICE are only allowed to tell you so much so please stop blaming them for anything that goes wrong....

You can assume the gender of the 'person' as it says 'male' in the first bold line...!

Are we sure that this was sexual assault on a child? It doesn't mention anything about a child and adults can be sexually assaulted too, or am I missing something?

Reply Posted by vicky on Thursday May 9 2013 at 14:01
So sick of people saying the public are not at risk !!!! we are at risk from sex offenders i have one living next door but one who been sent to prison 3 times for sexual crimes and having images on children, they housed him here 3 years ago without me knowing this my boys have played in there pool when that freak has been sat watching !!!! but still all they can say to me is just be VIGILANT !!!!!!! WHY SHUD I LIVE IN FEAR FOR MY KIDS ??????

Reply Posted by mememe on Thursday May 9 2013 at 15:10
Gemma Fields - before the article was updated the article just stated that Police were investigating an alleged sexual assault. So at the time when the first comments were written the gender of this person wasn't identified so no, we couldn't assume the gender..

Reply Posted by x on Friday May 10 2013 at 12:32
sexual assault is sexual assault jamie regardless of the age of the person attacked, and maybe the people refering to this person as a kid may just be local to lundwood and therfore know the victim and her family

What happened to innocent till proven guilty!!! Ppl r quick to judge when stuff like that come out u here about stuff like this where it becomes a false accusation he's been realised on bail prob cos there isn't enough to go by yet and after interview he doesn't threat a real danger if he did they would have kept him in custody pending further enquires ppl r quick to judge but bet they won't be quick to apologise if he gets found not guilty!!!

i agree ,he could be inocent ,wait untill we here the truth
