A MAN who has been sentenced is set to be deported after serving his three years and four months in prison.

Lukas Cebatavicius pleaded guilty to robbery on April 24. He was arrested in December 2012, after he committed the offence at the Co-operative BP service station on Sheffield Road in Barnsley.

He entered the service station on Sunday, December 2 2012 at around 7.50pm, where he waited until the cashier opened the till then produced a pocket-knife and lunged towards the till. He managed to take £25 before leaving the shop.

Police released CCTV images of Lukas, and he was identified by a member of the public and arrested. He was picked out in an ID parade by the shop assistant and pleaded guilty to the offence.

He will be deported back to Lithuania when he has served his prison sentence.

DC Matt Gregory the officer in the case, said: "I want to thank the public for their help in this case, without them we wouldn’t have been able to identify the man.

"I am pleased he has been given a prison sentence and want to reassure the public that we will not tolerate any type of crime in Barnsley, and will do everything we can to catch those responsible."
