Eighteen Former Atteys Staff Employed By New Solicitors

We Are Barnsley We Are Barnsley

SHEFFIELD-based solicitors Wosskow Brown has opened a new office in Barnsley in the Regent Street premises formerly occupied by law firm Atteys.

The firm has taken over the files of Attey's current clients and contacted them to update them on documents such as wills.

As part of its expansion programme, it has also given jobs to 18 former staff of Atteys and plans to invest about £100,000 over the next five years.

Managing partner Ian Brown, said: "Barnsley is a large, thriving town that has long been on our wish-list for opening a new office. It was also key for us that we saved jobs where we could. We are investing in the building and revamping - we have already started on the IT systems."

The firm has brought in initiatives such as a liveried vehicle which staff can use to go out and see clients. The company will also develop a presence at local events and organise charity functions.

Mr Brown added: "We want to create a modern concept of legal 'shops' that people feel more comfortable with rather than the traditional more formal legal offices. It's all about local lawyers for local people."

Sonia Hume-Dawson, now head of personal injury at Wosskow Brown Barnsley, worked for 36 years for Atteys.

She said: "We have recruited a very strong team for the new office, many of who are well-known to the people of Barnsley because they have been winning their cases and fighting their corner for years at other firms."

Wosskow Brown was voted Yorkshire Law Firm of the Year for businesses with one to ten partners late in 2012. It received the accolade from a panel of its peers including partners from other law firms.
