Big success at Disability Games Big success at Disability Games

THE Disability Games saw hundreds of disabled young people recreate the spirit of London's 2012 Paralympics.

More than 400 youngsters from across South Yorkshire gathered for the games at the Metrodome.

They competed in 20 events including swimming, snooker, boccia, curling, darts and weight-lifting as well as wheelchair racing.

Barnsley winners included Daniel Wood, from Barnsley Greenacre, who took the trophy in archery, and Lewis Knowles, from Horizon Community College, who won the darts tournament.

Horizon did especially well and produced several triumphs. Ellie Hale took the junior title in curling, Bradley Jackson won junior male in weight-lifting and Samuel Mayo won the Rotary Club of Drone Valley Endeavour Trophy.

The event was held in South Yorkshire for the first time and organised by Barnsley Rockley Rotary Club.

Medals were awarded at the end of the games by
disabled table tennis player Sue Gilroy, and hand cyclist Karen Darke - silver medallist in the Paratriathlon in London last year .

Barnsley-based Sue, who has competed at four Paralympics and also won a world championship medal, said: "The disability games have been fabulous. Events such as this provide inspiration for disabled people and it was great to see the competition."

Craig Holdsworth, of Barnsley Rockley, was winner of the motorised wheelchair dash.

Graham Noble, president of the Barnsley Rockley Rotary Club, said: "It was a real honour for us to host the games in Barnsley and there was a real sense of competitive spirit."

And removed my comment, the comment was valid as I and my partner are on the photo featured from Coventry 2011 (obviously you couldn't be bothered to send a photographer). Parking was horrendous, the Metrodome as a venue was not big enough!

The same photo of the 2011 Rotary English Team Disability Championship in Coventry was also used on the ITV Calender website ????? I am also featured.
Lots of photos are available from the event organisers.
The organisers did not receive any complaints about the parking.
This is something to look into for the 2014 event.
