Over A Thousand Sign Bedroom Tax Petition

Thursday April 25 2013

More signatures More signatures

MORE than 1,000 people have signed a petition against bedroom tax - and more meetings have been planned across the borough.

Some council tenants have seen their housing benefit cut if they have a spare room, leaving them afraid they will struggle to make ends meet.

The number of people affected in Barnsley is 3,664 and more than 100 people have attended meetings in Athersley and Kendray - with more planned in Royston, Gawber and Worsbrough.

Fran Postlethwaite, of Barnsley Against Bedroom Tax, said the majority of people in Barnsley are disgusted and terrified at the thought of losing their homes.

The group wants a commitment from the council that nobody will be evicted if they fail to make the payments.

MPs Dan Jarvis and Michael Dugher will attend and address a rally on April 27.

The group plans to present the petition to council leader Steve Houghton ahead of the full council meeting and to Berneslai Homes.

Good luck who? lol. A thousand signatures isn't a lot really. So we have Jarvis and Dugher from the Welfare Party turning up at the next rally. Good job guys, that's an insult to the rest of us who have to pay for their mortgage or private rent.

i have always believed that everyone should be judge on their own merits, but i have to say i am sick to the back teeth of the woe is me remarks from some working people on every item you read on wab well heres a way to get people back to work, give up your job to someone who would actually be gratefull to be employed, and go off and live the amazing luxurious lifestyle you seem to be convinced people on benefits have.it makes me sick that a good portion of people who moan are actually claiming working tax credit, working families tax credit, help with childcare costs etc, which are all benefits if your so against benefits then don't claim any.and yes i do work,do have a mortgage, and do struggle every week, but i also happen to be lucky enough to have my health, pride, selfworth, and a job. something a lot of people on benefits once had and lost when they lost their jobs, and in this present climate may unfortunately for many, not have for the forseable future.so be gratefull for what you have or give it to someone who would give anything to be in our position

Please tell me that's not a collection bucket on that table. Two goons had a table with a bucket on it in the town centre the other day protesting against the so called "bedroom tax".

Needless to say, people wern't queuing up round the block to sign this petition!

I agree completely with x .
When these self riteous pratts with there wise cracks about what people should and shouldnt do......well heres my self riteous
comment.....
All people would not be able to have more than 50,000 in the bank.....people withprivate housing and more than 5 bedrooms when there are only 2 people in them should have to pay 20% per bedroom .more council tax...anyone with land that exceeds 0.4 of an acre and doesnt use it for agriculture or livestock should have to give it up for building homes on.....let that cat among the pigeons......no one person should be allowed to work more than 40 hours .it should be job share.....no one should work past 60 then then there would be thousands more jobs.....then you could cater for job creation in old age hobbies and passtimes......this is not about who has and who hasnt...or who does and who doesnt....its about fairness......to everyone

Or Les useless people like you could get a job and then you too could pay for a mortgage, have savings, own land or whatever it is you are moaning about.

Why don't you and X above start your own business as you seem to think you are so clever??

Or hard working people whom you despise can stop paying for you two and then you could live on the streets. You really are ungrateful....

I think all the pompous people including the government should all spend a bit more time reading the universal declaration on human rights before wailing on

Get it paid! I live on a new housing estate where there is a certain percentage of social housing. There is one particular family who don't go out and work but live in a five bed home, yes a five bed home with all the mod cons. ( they have 3 children) They take there kids to school and then go back to bed for the rest of the day on a daily basis. Me a my partner both work and pay a mortgage on a three bed home. To see the way this famliy lives makes me sick. Like mick said, Mick Dughar and Dan Jarvis are a disgrace!

Do you see people who have a mortgage or rent private protesting or having rallys? No!

Reply Posted by les on Friday April 26 2013 at 09:50
Oh yes you do.and im sure you dont work because all you do is watch all day to see if someone is laying in bed all day.
And if people didnt buy 5 bedroomed houses to rent out to people out of work how did the people out of work find the deposit and i think its so selfish that people should be out of work and live in a house.....
What your saying is they should be out on the street and there kids shouldnt be at school in the same classroom..........
As working people.........you didnt read the earlier comment i made about people in private houses should pay 20% more council tax for there empty bedrooms...
And while your watching what everybody else is doing take a moment to think how much you borrowed to to buy your house
trillions are owed to this country from people who borrow money for a house ...a car anthe dfs furniture shop.....is the story sinking in.....its not all about the dole i bet you owe a lot more to the country than they do...........and yes i work....and i rent
and when i die the house will go to someone else who needs it......and i dont owe anybody anything

Not at all les. They tell us they spend all day in bed sunshine. The also say the are better off not working because they wouldn't get what they get now. What do you think to that big lad?

Reply Posted by les on Friday April 26 2013 at 10:18
I am 5'7" so im not a big lad
and i was right you have just answered your own question its not there fault its the system that is at fault if there is a fault.i suggest that you read the universal declaration of human rights.and i also suggest that you refrain from talking to people in the street and then spreading that conversation on chat sites ....you know what they say about people living in glass houses

I think you need to go away and learn to use punctuation and then read the Human Right's Acts then you comment.

i'm sorry sally but you cant tar everyone with the same brush, if that family are staying in bed all day then they are not setting a great example for their kids but me personally, i live with my partner in a 3 bed council house with our 2 girls under 5 & 2 sons that live with their day that stay wknds & most all holidays. we are all up between 6.30-7.30, i do all the household chores all day, my kids go to school every day, my partner is online & out looking for work every day, he has been out of work for a year & half, done everything the jobcentre throws at him with the promise of a job but up to now nothing. he's had interviews to no avail & now we have to pay roughly £12 bedroom tax & £15 a month council tax which doesn't sound loads on its own but on top of normal bills & expenses plus dept i am worried we will fall behind, it is worrying & it is hard, not evryone wants to be out of work & in bed all day........& just to add, just before xmas i addended a partners work interview & was told if one of us had a part time job, at least 25hrs p/w, we would be £60 better off & just over £90 if full time, both these figures are after normal living expenses & tax but i was also told by the jobcentre that once the changes came in to effect this april, this figure would be less so where do you go from there when you are getting negative info. like that from the ppl that are supposed to be encouraging in you to work?

sally,i happen to believe i am a better and happier person by not letting what complete strangers are and are not doing to impact on my life,we all have choices and i can either spend every working day being bitter about other people ,or i can get on with my own life, make the best of what i have and try my best to enjoy my life.it actually worries me more that some people seem to get great pleasure out of of seeing the most vunerable people in our society being targeted, and as for the people who have never worked and dont intend to they will suppliment their income any way they can, house burglaries will rise steeply car break ins muggings shoplifting etc which in turn means we will have to pay more for home and car insurance our weekly shopping bills will rise even more meaning we are actually paying twice for these people and lets be honest who's houses are left empty and vunerable all day every day.in an ideal world i would love to see everyone able to work to be in employment, but its not,and my personal belief is that what this government is doing will actually cause more problems than it will solve

Hmm, Im having an opinion x. Im not letting it impact on my life. I doubt you're a better and happier person either.

Did you, or did you not say you were sick to the back teeth of the woe is me remarks in an earler post? You shoudn't let it have an impact on your life chum.

I stand by my opinion.

Reply Posted by x on Friday April 26 2013 at 14:04
bitterness and envy is a terrible thing sally and if you wern't letting it impact on your life then why should you give a damn what anyone else has and hasn't got and if your so happy why should it be an issue for you,and if your so happy why would you want to watch other people suffer having anopinion and getting pleasure out of someone elses suffering are two different things

Reply Posted by Grim on Friday April 26 2013 at 18:31
Sally ignore x he changes his opinion more often than most on here change theri underpants.......... he seems bitter to me whilst you sound like a top bird.

Reply Posted by dave on Friday April 26 2013 at 18:16
why dont those with too many bedrooms swap for a smaller house...theres lots of families overcrowded.

Reply Posted by x on Saturday April 27 2013 at 12:41
how do i change my opinions grim i am a damned hard worker who happens to think that is wrong to punish the vunerable for the mess this country is in,and that there are too many self centred people in this country who dont realise how lucky they are. most of us are struggling at the moment but that doesn't make it right to get some sort of smug satisfaction out of some people being made to struggle more than others and saying that in an ideal world i would like to see everyone who can work being in employment is not changing my opinions on how less fortunate people are being treated

This only affects people on benafits .Simple get a job . FACT.

Reply Posted by Jayne on Monday April 29 2013 at 12:58
Am right with you Sally. I know plenty of idol lay about families who will not work because simply, why should they. Before les or x start on me, I don't get any benefits at all, nothing. I was actually insulted the other day by a lady who has been taken of sickness benefits for her so called depression. Before x or les start I have lived with severe depression for a long time, I was not the sufferer, my husband and mother was. When I asked the lady if she has now got to get a job she said no way I am not working In a crappy warehouse doing weekends like you, when will I get to go out. That's the sort of people this bedroom tax affects so no sympathy here sorry

Reply Posted by x on Monday April 29 2013 at 14:39
jayne i have also not claimed benefits and happen to work damned hard for my wages and have done for over 30 yrs and like i said you will always get people who have no intentions of working, but that does'nt make it right to punish the genuine people who are having to live on benefits through no fault of their own,i happen to know people who turn up for work every day get paid a wage but dont actually earn a penny of the wages they recieve.

NOT ENOUGTH TWO BED COUNCIL HOUSES (BUILD MORE))).BECAUSE FAR TOO MANY NON UK RESIDENTS MOVING INTO THIS COUNTRY AND LIVING IN UK COUNCIL HOUSING.(STOP NON UK PEOPLE COMING INTO THIS COUNTRY).AND THE COUNCIL HAVE BUILT A VERY SMALL MINORITY OF TWO BEDROOM HOUSING.(AGAIN BUILD MORE)BUT IF WE STOPPED NON UK PEOPLE COMING TO LIVE IN THIS COUNTRY WE WOULD HAVE PLENTY OF COUNCIL HOUSING.AND MORE JOBS FOR UK RESIDENTS.THEREFORE LESS PEOPLE ON THE JOBSEEKERS ON THE DOLE.AND BETTER HIGHER EMPLOYMENT STATISTICS.ALSO STOP THE GOVERNMENT FOR AT LEAST a YEARS FROM SPENDING UK MONEY ON NON PROFIT ITEMS.AND STOP THE UK GOVERNMENT FROM GIVING AWAY UK MONEY TO OTHER NEEDY COUNTRYS .THIS IS NOW THE TIME TO SAVE OUR UK AND THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD CUT BACK TOO.
