TEENAGE singer-songwriter Emily Worton successfully appeared on The Voice on Saturday night.

The 18-year-old, from Thurgoland, took to the second series of the hit BBC programme and won a place in Will.i.am's group of contenders.

Stepping out onto the stage with an acoustic guitar, the teen wowed the American judge with her take on Pulp's popular Britpop anthem, 'Common People'.

Emily will be competing to win £100,000 and a recording contract.

"The first part was magical and it was flawlessly executed," said Will. "You were powerful at the beginning, and you were powerful at the end."

Another judge, The Script's Danny O'Donoghue, was also on the verge of turning around, and regretted his decision not to.

"The only reason why I didn’t turn round is because I’m an idiot," the Irish singer admitted. "To pull off those vocals and play guitar at the same time... I know how hard that is."
