Oxpring Residents Get Their Say On Shaping Community

Tuesday April 23 2013

We Are Barnsley We Are Barnsley

VILLAGERS in Oxspring will be given the opportunity to help shape the future of their community as part of a new neighbourhood plan.

Oxspring Parish Council is the first local authority in the Barnsley borough to announce its intention to adopt the scheme as part of the Localism Act.

Residents will be able to air their views on a range of topics, including transport, environment and housing.

The plan will then be drawn up but must conform to Barnsley Council's core strategic plan, as well as policies at national and European level. It will also need to demonstrate support from the local community through a referendum.

"This is their opportunity to say what they want their village to look like," said Cllr Ann Walker. "It's an overview of what the parishioners want. Some of it won't suit everybody but it will be a general consensus to see what the majority want."

The plan will set out policies on the development and use of land in the parish and neighbourhood.

The public meeting will be held at St Aidan's, from 7.30pm on Wednesday May 8.
