A GROUP of eight cyclists completed 240 miles in a non-stop 24-hour ride to raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Riders braved freezing conditions to pedal from Westminster to Huddersfield in aid of the charity.

Temperatures plummeted to -3.5 degrees overnight - and the wind chill factor made conditions feel even colder.

Cyclists Michael Greig, Ian Gledhill, Les Field, Gary Denial, Andrew Scott, Matthew Smithies, Martyn Broughton and Dave Noon were supported along the route by Carl Dickinson, Dave Dawes, Paul Denial and Martin Thornton.

"It was so cold that at one point the drinks in their water bottles froze and there was frost on their safety helmets and face guards, said Paul Denial.

"They all survived and completed the gruelling journey with no mishaps - an amazing achievement for their worthy cause."

Organiser and rider Ian, said: “We had fantastic support from all sorts of sponsors, including Thurgoland-based Ernest Thorpe Transport. They donated money last year and this year gave us fuel for the two support vehicles."
