A CHILD uncovered a hand grenade in the garden of a house in South Yorkshire.

The device was dug up in Thurnscoe on Tuesday evening.

Police were called and the grenade was removed from the property at Merrill Road at around 19:30.

Officers said it appeared the hand grenade was old but it wasn't clear how long it had been buried.

South Yorkshire Police said the device would be destroyed by bomb disposal experts.

To whom thjs may concern, after reading your story upon this article i would like to inform you that the female who found the grenade is aged 29! The police never transported it from merril rd at all! Ricky hart transported it in a bucket covered by a celebration tin to the bus stop on houghton rd to then be passed on to Lisa Cattels mum who safely stored it at her property on Horsemoor rd,
Thankyou for reading, i just don't like stories been published wrongly!!

Thank god for that news. I thought Thurnscoe had not realised the war was over 50 years ago.

Ade, the police state it was removed from merril rd, and claimed they had done it! Horsemoor rd in thurnscoe was closed off due to a bomb being there, why would the police move it from merril rd to horsemoor rd? My friend had moved it to keep the children safe that reside at the property with her mother Lisa. The bomb squad was then comtacted and safely removed the bomb from the property on Horsemoor rd. the police talk absolute bull!!
