DODWORTH and Gilroyd Children’s Centre are celebrating after receiving praise from Ofsted following a recent inspection.

The centre was visited over two days earlier this month and the main finding was that it was a satisfactory centre that's improving rapidly.

When assessing outcomes for families, inspectors said: “A majority of families in the area engage with the appropriate health services and show an increasing understanding of how to keep themselves healthy. They learn how to provide nutritious snacks and family meals and their children enjoy tasting different foods at the centre.”

Children who are subject to a child protection plan, children in need or those who are looked after by the local authority are closely tracked and their needs effectively met.

Services such as the ‘Having a Baby’ programme are popular and parents appreciate the integrated working partnerships established by health professionals. Participants at these sessions commented: “The programme made me look forward to my baby’s birth rather than fear it.”

On receiving the report, Patricia Lang, centre leader, said: “I’m delighted that parents told the inspectors that they value the centre - they were highly complimentary about the approach of staff and the quality of services on offer."
