Judge's Fury In Worsbrough Man's Child Porn Case Delay

A JUDGE has demanded an explanation why it's taken almost 18 months to bring an internet child porn case to Barnsley Magistrates' Court.

District Judge John Foster has ordered the police and Crown Prosecution Service to give reasons in writing for the 'shocking and lamentable' delay.

Mr Foster attacked the justice system for failing to realise the seriousness of the case against Mark Middlemass, 35, of Worsbrough Dale.

Middlemass admitted five counts of downloading indecent images of children and breaching a ban on using the internet imposed under the Sex Offenders' Act.

"Since his computer was impounded in October 2011, nothing, absolutely nothing has happened," said Mr Foster. "Somewhere in the criminal justice system there's been a failure to acknowledge the seriousness of the matters that Mr Middlemass faces."

"I want an explanation in writing why this lamentable situation has happened. This delay is absolutely shocking because the public should expect protection from the police and the Crown Prosecution Service," he added.

Middlemass's laptop contained 346 images of children, and he's been on the sex offenders' register since 2007.

Middlemass will be sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on April 18.
