ANOTHER Barnsley school has been labelled 'outstanding' by Ofsted.

Greenacre School, which caters for children with severe and complex learning difficulties and children with communication, speech and language difficulties, has progressed from 'good' to 'oustanding'.

The inspectors gave the school top marks for the achievement of pupils, the quality of teaching, the behaviour and safety of pupils and the leadership and management.

Their report says the school has continued to improve markedly since the previous inspection and senior leaders and all of the staff share the highest expectations for students.

Students make "exceptional progress" from their starting points in all areas of their learning. Their progress in reading, writing and mathematics is outstanding. Students’ progress in literacy and communication is extremely strong.

The quality of teaching is at least consistently good and a significant proportion is outstanding. Teachers and support staff plan highly individual activities for each student so they make exceptional progress.

The sixth form is also outstanding - students make excellent progress as a result of a varied curriculum, the high expectations their teachers have of them and the many opportunities they are given to develop their independence.

The inspectors say students feel "safe and secure in this school" and that any difficulties with behaviour are "managed with consummate skill". Staff use their "excellent understanding of each student" so that students develop "high levels of independence in relation to their needs and wishes".

Greenacre's principal, Susan Hayter, said: "Pupils, staff, governors and parents have all been praised in this report for their work and achievements. We are delighted."

Susan hater should get a OBE for what she has done for this school .I didn't slow my daughter to go to this school in 2003/4 but since this lady took over as the head she has worked so hard and deserves some kind of recognition for it . Jodie attended the school from the age of 15 to 19 and we were really sorry when she had to leave . Fantastic lady and school .WELL DONE
