Doctors Get More Say On Where NHS Spends Its Money

Friday April 12 2013

DOCTORS in Barnsley will be given more say on how and where money is spent on health services in the town.

The Barnsley NHS Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) will take control of the NHS budget from April 1.

The CCG be made up of 38 GP practices from across Barnsley which will be responsible for commissioning hospital, community and mental health services - overseeing a budget of approximately £350 million. The CCG board will also consist of a nurse, a hospital doctor and a member of the public.

Local GP Dr Nick Balac, CCG chairman, said: “We want to make real and sustainable improvements in the health and wellbeing of the people of Barnsley. We know that in order to do this, we need to work with patients, carers and the public to listen to their views and to involve them in decisions about commissioning and developing and improving health services.”
