Dad Found Guilty In Daughter Manslaughter Case

Wednesday March 27 2013

Mark Lackenby Mark Lackenby

A MAN from Goldthorpe has been found guilty of the manslaughter of his daughter.

Mark Lackenby, 32, originally from Goldthorpe, was sentenced to ten years imprisonment for the manslaughter of Ruby Lackenby.

A 31-year-old woman, Gemma Coates, was found not guilty at Sheffield Crown Court of perverting the course of justice.

Ruby was five-and-a-half-weeks-old when she died in February 2011.

Her parents Lackenby and Coates were arrested in July 2011 and then charged in January, 2012.

DCI Sean Middleton, the senior investigating officer, said: "This is a tragic case which must have caused a great deal of anguish for the extended family of Ruby and has greatly affected the community of Goldthorpe. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Goldthorpe community for helping us."

Is this the bloke who shook the baby to death after losing a £2.50 bet? If her mum was in the bath and he was downstairs with the baby? If he didnt do it how did she die?

I see how things are already getting added on. Thats the 'reliable press' again. They only print what they think will make good reading.'Shook to death after losing £2.50' How fabrictated and bull S**t. I'm related to Mark, and no way would he do this. He adores his 4 children. Also his 14 year old daughter is probably reading this, have a bit of consideration eh

its been all over radio that he did it because of losing a bet, so who came up with that then and hes been found guilty so obviously enough evidence to come to that. just cos hes youve known him and his family for years doesnt mean hes innocent it just means your too blind to accept the fact he could do something like that. absolutely appauling

you havent got a clue before judging him get your facts right hes got three kids that ador him and he adors them the bet that people are goin on about hes not even a arsenal fan hes not an agresive man he dosent care about stupid bets for sake of a £2.50 bet i have none mark since i was a kid my self hes lost his little baby his career his life so you really need to get your facts right end of the day he tryed to resusitate his baby thats when the ribs could have been broke you would no that if you had any first aid training atall your the blind one listening to all this bullshit on here!!! the only appauling thing is you your judgment the jury end off the day there was only two men on the jury the rest was women wrong!! hows that fair it was the jurys decision there was no evidence you split ars bitch

I think WAB should change their layout so that no one can comment on these type of press releases. It would stop all the horrible people, who just assume they know the right tale, putting on the nasty comments on here and causing more grief for the family members who are left to deal with these sort of situations. If the shoe was on the other foot, and believe me it can happen to you, they would think twice!!!

Ive know Mark for years and never thought he would be capable of this. I know all his family and have done for years there a very good set of people.

I think it is best to stop all talk of whats happened and think of the others involved here too. His family will be and are devastated with whats happened.

Last but not least wheres all the love for the baby that's the one person that should be getting all the talk and not of Mark. If it is true then he deserves what he as got but if it is wrong then a man has been wrongly convicted AND THIS DOES HAPPEN. Grow up all of you and lets take a minute for this baby. Your in a better place now.

the jury heard the details "for" and "against" and with that information concluded the case. It's innocent until proven guilty?

Reply Posted by Holly on Wednesday March 27 2013 at 15:05
Very valid point Helen, do we ever really know anybody?
Tragic tragic case. If he truly is guilty then he should rot in jail.
However as we know there have been other high profile cases of 'shaken baby syndrome' that have been proved on appeal to be wrong convictions. If he is innocent then an appeal must be made.

Reply Posted by wtf on Wednesday March 27 2013 at 15:09
It wasn't just shaken baby syndrome tho was it ? The poor baby had broken ribs caused days before ! I know no one who knows him wants to believe it but he was put on trial and was found guilty no matter how painful they are the facts . The only person I feel sorry for is that beautiful baby girl

I hope you get a good hiding every day for the rest of your life.

Looks to me like they only got him for manslaughter because there were no witnesses otherwise it would have been murder

You can't shake a Bairn hard enough to cause them injuries and not know its going to risk killing her. Don't matter how many other kids he had this one died and he did it.

It's hard to believe friends and family are capable of these acts but the EVIDENCE says he did it.

He can only appeal if there is new evidence and if there was evidence then why wasn't it at the trail?

Face facts he killed her and you insult her memory defending him

I think your all pathetic. Have a bit of consideration for the family and his children! Speaking as a young adult, if I was reading this about my dad I would be mortified! Noone nos the facts so stop assuming and grow up all of you. Let the family move on from this tragadey that has happened! Not only have they lost a little girl, sister daughter grand-daughter but they've lost there dad as well. Have a bit of consideration!

Yes he was found guilty, but so have loads of other innocent people over the years. I'm not saying he's guilty or innocent, as I was not in the room when poor ruby died. But whatever happened, it isnt our place to speculate, as has been said already, he has a 14 yrs old daughter, who will most likely be on facebook, she will be distraught enough as it is without publicly "beating her dad with a stick".
You sound like Norris from coronation street, bitching about him behind his back, ready to spit in his face, and what happens if he's proved innocent?? Are you all gonna man up, go knock on his door and apologise for all this??
Are you f**k, you're all just a bunch of vultures, thriving on the malicious gossip, just leave the family be.

I think everyone that has posted an opinion here is utter scum, worse than any murderer. It is none of your business, you are not involved, you don't know any of the facts or the truth of the matter, yet you further hurt his family by dragging on the unwanted publicity. Get on with your own lives and think yourself lucky it isn't your life laid open to public speculation.

Reply Posted by Jk on Thursday March 28 2013 at 18:23
The "truth" varies depending on viewpoint but the facts as stated above remain the same

A child died following not one but at least two possibly more acts of violence. A 5 1/2 week old child defenceless and innocent who had many injuries.

The mother clearly lied, the father was tried and convicted based on evidence in a court of law.

You may believe him, you may know him but then again he may have fooled you. That's why courts decide because they are impartial and base decisions on evidence.

He is not innocent he is guilty

No matter what his family believe, perhaps you need to face up to it instead of attacking people and swearing at them.

If he didn't do it then why in the world are you all not doing your best to find out who did ? If it were my baby relative who died from injuries like that I wouldn't rest till I found out who hurt her ! Blaming the mum is easy now but noone blamed her through the trial , the sad facts are that he has been found guilty and that's awful for his other children hopefully they don't see any of this

When the other in mates in prison find out why he's in then im sure they'll dish out a bit more punishment, his life will be hell. When the lights go out at night and he's locked in that cell hes got to face many nightmares and demons I suspect. If hes guilty, and from what ive read he is, then he deserves whats coming to him.

One thing for sure the prison community don't take this sort of thing lightly. This man will be reminded every second of everyday what crime he has done..

or a quarter less than he did a year earlier. spares no accusations in the?he filed last week in federal court in the Northern District of California The suit is a compendium of supposed misbehavior by Hausfeld and some of his partners allegedly committed under the pressure of financial straits I’m not sure how much fire underlies the clouds of smoke from King’s red-hot complaint but Hausfeld has made enough enemies and is leading enough big cases — including a potentially gargantuan investor class action against the banks that allegedly manipulated Libor rates — that the suit is going to be the talk of the antitrust barI want to say up front that I emailed Hausfeld asking him to address some of the specific accusations in King’s complaint I did not receive a reply from him but a representative sent an email statement: “This is an employment grievance from a former partner of Hausfeld LLP” it said “The firm separated with Mr King for good reason and the allegations made by him are baseless We abide by the highest ethical standards and will defend our reputation vigorously”So keep Hausfeld’s denial in mind as you consider King’s allegations that the firm took financial advantage of co-counsel in litigation over the unauthorized use of likenesses of college athletes in videogames; courted Asian electronics companies to be plaintiffs in one antitrust case even as the firm litigated against them in another action; tried to undermine client development efforts by co-counsel; and signed the name of a famous client — NFL Hall of Famer Elvin Bethea — to a letter he did not write or support Individually the accusations may not amount to much and there’s a lot in King’s kitchen-sink complaint that quite frankly seems intended to tar the reputation of some Hausfeld partners rather than to bolster King’s argument that he was fired for blowing the whistle on the firm’s unethical practices But the complaint includes enough details about the founding and operation of Hausfeld LLP to be a fascinating inside look at the firmThe essential problem at Hausfeld according to King is money The firm was founded as an antitrust boutique but antitrust cases take years to generate attorneys’ fees Moreover Hausfeld’s determination to pursue cross-border litigation — the philosophy that led to his exceedingly bitter split with the firm now known asCohen Milstein Sellers & Toll– was costly according to King The firm struggled to keep open a London office even as the British courts issued decisions that seemed to preclude the sort of global antitrust class actions Hausfeld envisioned The complaint said that Hausfeld tried and failed to persuade litigation funding companies and other antitrust firms to invest in the London operation and finally had to ask partners to pledge personal assets as surety on funding from Citigroup (King asserts that he voluntarily switched from equity to non-equity status because soon after the firm’s founding in 2008 he became concerned about the firm’s borrowing)Under financial duress the complaint claims the Hausfeld firm cut corners and took advantage of co-counsel In the consolidated litigation over videogame makers using images of college athletes without permission or compensation King alleges Hausfeld as lead counsel created a shared litigation fund and asked for contributions from co-counsel to support combined efforts on behalf of the plaintiffs But the firm itself according to King made no contribution to the fund Hausfeld himself supposedly instructed King who was one of the lead partners on the case not to tell the other plaintiffs’ firms and when Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro proposed a joint motion to be named permanent lead counsel King claims Hausfeld discussed how to get Hagens Berman to pay into the fund while continuing to conceal the Hausfeld firm’s failure to chip in (I emailed Steve Berman of Hagens Berman to ask about King’s allegation He said King’s complaint accurately reflected his belief that the Hausfeld firm was overstaffing the college athletes’ case but said he wasn’t privy to Hausfeld’s financial dealings with other firms because he’s leading a different piece of the litigation “I don’t know what arrangements have been made for funding the costs and whether the other firms have agreed that Hausfeld doesn’t have to share costs because the antitrust case was his idea” Berman said “I do think the loss of Mr King is not good for the case”)Jon King when William Randolph Hearst used his family fortune to spread his newspaper ego across the nation.
