A MOTHER is organising a fundraising event which will coincide with the end of her son's three-year course of chemotherapy.

Tracy Padgett is donating the proceeds to three children's cancer charities.

Nathan, her 12-year-old son, has been battling leukemia since the age of nine and is coming to the end of his chemotherapy, and the signs look promising.

"He's got a test next week, but the signs are that he'll get given the all clear," said Tracy. "I asked people to donate their unused toys to sell for the charities, and we've got some really good toys that have been donated."

Over the past three years and four months, Nathan has had oral, intravenous and lumbar puncture chemotherapy.

Although he's spent a lot of time in Sheffield Children's Hospital, especially in the first year, he has managed to keep up with most of his schooling and is enjoying himself at Horizon Community College.

"He's still weak because of all the treatment, so he cannot at the moment do normal things like walking to school," said Tracy. "Hopefully that strength will now return and he can look forward to doing everyday things like swimming, scouts and camping."

She's raising money for Sheffield-based Amy's Retreat, Remember Spencer and Briony's Gift, which grants wishes to children being treated with life-limiting illnesses at Sheffield Children's Hospital.

Tracy says she has a "room full" of donated toys and books for her sale and promises some "great bargains" for potential buyers.

Tracy's 'Table Top Sale' is on Saturday April 6 at Emmanuel Church in Barnsley.

Me and my sister would love to help, if there's anything we can do please email, weather it's donations or an extra pair of hands we want to help :-)
