Penistone Runner To Run His Tenth London Marathon

Monday March 4 2013

A MARATHON runner from Penistone hopes to break the £25,000 charity fundraising barrier when he does his tenth consecutive London Marathon next month.

Roger Cousins, a 61-year-old school caretaker, has completed the marathons for the past decade in order to help a variety of causes.

His current total stands at more than £23,000 and he is confident of adding to it when he completes this year's 26-mile race on April 21.

"You can't explain the buzz of the marathon," said Roger. "Because you've got your name on your T-shirt, they're shouting your name like they know you - it's an unbelievable atmosphere."

Roger will run the marathon dressed in pink, including a wig and a tutu, for Breast Cancer UK.

He said the race puts him through the pain barrier but his suffering is it insignificant in comparison to those he is helping.

Good luck from We Are Barnsley!
