Junior Football Team Donates Its Kits To Ugandan School

Monday February 18 2013

A JUNIOR football team has donated its old kits to a school in Uganda.

Pupils from the Bridge of Hope Primary School said they were thrilled with the donations from Brierley Cubs JFC and couldn't wait to wear them while playing football.

The kit was delivered by Mike Norbury - father of the Cubs' under-eights coach Jamie - who has been doing voluntary work in the area.

Jamie said: "It was my wife's idea to send the kits across. Dad came back from there last year and told us what it was like for the children."

Mike works with Chester-based charity Equipe, who helped build classrooms and dormitories at the school, which is based on an island in Lake Victoria.

Jamie added: "It's really remote. The kids on the island only have electricity for a couple of hours a day. We just though it would be nice to send some help over there. The children don't have any footwear kits so we're now appealing for football boots to send across."

The school's headteacher, Lawrence Lweera, said: "I am so pleased about the love and support shown to my children by the club."
