A PLAN to demolish a care home which closed down when it was branded out of date has been deferred to allow planners to investigate further.

Swiftbuild Properties wants to build an 80 bedroom care home with day care and office facilities on the site of
Greenside House Nursing Home, Greenside Avenue, Staincross.

The proposal seeks to demolish the existing 1970’s 40 bed home on the site that has closed down - it shut because it was branded not fit for purpose, with inadequate bedroom sizes and a building that was difficult to manage.

It was expected to be approved by the council's planning board yesterday (Tuesday) but the decision was deferred because officers wanted to look into the number of parking places provided - and to check on the impact the development could have on a nearby school.

I'm not sure how plans to demolish the Greenside care home can be deferred when they've already knocked down most of it!
