RSPCA Investigates Incident At Dearne Valley Country Park

THE RSPCA is investigating an incident at Dearne Valley Country Park where a duck was seen with a crossbow bolt through its head.

Barnsley Council reported the incident to the organisation. A few WABers also spotted the duck, and reported it to us on our Facebook page.

If anyone's convicted of shooting the animal, they could face a six-month prison sentence and a £5,000 fine.

Officers from the RSPCA had attempted to catch the duck but it evaded them, so they're monitoring its condition.

A spokeswoman from the RSPCA said the animal appeared able to still feed itself but officers wanted to treat it before it came to any further harm.

It's thought that the bolt may have entered the mallard's head through the ear canal.

my husband takes our dogs down there every day,,told me about this duck well over a week ago...said that it seems to be coping okay,,,has been feeding the ducks and it has come up to him as the others have,,,,it does not seem to be in distress,,but does need seeing to,,,we hope that when you do manage to catch it ,,its looked after till it is well.thankyou.xxx

i hope you have managed to capture this poor duck ,how on earth can someone do such a disgraceful thing
Find them and i wiil gladly but a bolt through there head ,i know two wrongs dont make a right ,but the poor thing could not defend itself ,and if the person responsible is reading this ,you should be so ashamed of yourself ,you cruel person,
