MP Calls To Address Barnsley's Heart Disease Figures
Friday January 25 2013
MP JOHN Healey is calling for more to be done to tackle coronary heart disease after figures revealed an above average death rate in Barnsley.
The MP is backing the ‘Heart Hotspots’ campaign which aims to raise awareness of geographic variation in heart disease and encourage people to look after their own heart health.
Yorkshire and the Humber has the second worst regional mortality rate in the country, with the number of deaths from coronary heart disease 86.63 people per 100,000. The national average is 74.21.
John said: “Some good progress has been made in our area in the last decade, but it is disappointing that there are still inequalities and quite a big heart disease problem in Barnsley.“
