Miners' Memorial Gets Go Ahead

A MINERS' memorial will be developed in Dodworth at a cost of almost £10,000.

The Dodworth Miners' Memorial Wheel Fund has been given £9,700 for a memorial wheel, plaques and an interpretation panel on the High Street.

I am from a mining background. But I honestly think that this is a complete and utter waste of money. Spend it on something for the living not the dead.

I think this is a wonderful idea and a fitting tribute to the miners who worked at all the local collieries. My relation was killed at 19 years old while serving at Dodworth Colliery and when it is made, I will be standing proudly representing him!

were is the money coming from are the Dodworth people paying for it ,,, and were will it end nearly every village in Barnsley had a pit , ... i do not begrudge them having 1 but £9,700 for a wheel it seams a lot,,
