A MAN is fighting for his life after being struck by a car in a hit and run last night.

Witnesses report seeing two cars travelling close together from Town End roundabout on Racecommon Road going towards Longcar Lane at around 7.20pm on Wednesday, December 12.

One of the cars hit the man and then they both fled the scene, driving off to the traffic lights and turning right onto Park Road.

The 50-year-old man  from Barnsley sustained multiple life-threatening injuries and was taken to Barnsley District General Hospital. He has now been transferred to Northern General Hospital for urgent care.

Police are now trying to trace both car drivers. The car that hit the pedestrian is thought to be a silver Ford with a saloon shape.

A spokesman said: "This car will have damage to the driver’s side and possibly a broken window and/ or headlight.

"Initial witness reports suggest the driver was a white man, aged under 50-years-old and with longish fair hair.

"There is no description of the second car or driver."

Anyone with information to help trace the drivers should call 101 quoting incident number 941 of the 12 December.

maybe the 1,000 cameras in Barnsley may prove useful in this case. Someone may tell the Police to have a look at them

Sadly Tony, if the guy dies as a result of the injuries then the person responsible would be guilty of manslaughter. That is why people drive off :^(

why would warning signs deter people like that!? they have in their own stupidity and arrogance left someone that is wounded and potentially life threatening...regardless of where it was situated a crime has happened and there is a victim.....cowards
