We Are Barnsley knows you will be busy over the festive period, so we've compiled one of our famous survival guides.

We've contacted everyone we could think of to get you information on need-to-know goings-on like chemist and dentists opening, bus services and bin collections.

GP Opening Times

GPs are closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

Patients ringing their surgery will be either directly put through or given an alternative number to ring to access the out of hours provider.

Pharmacy Opening Times

Christmas Day
Lloyds Pharmacy, Barnsley Transport Interchange  - 10am – 12pm

Boxing Day
Asda Pharmacy, Old Mill Lane - 9am - 5pm

Boots, Cheapside - 10am - 4pm

Lloyds Pharmacy, Barnsley Transport Interchange - 8.30am - 8pm

New Years Day
Asda Pharmacy, Old Mill Lane - 10am - 4pm

Lloyds Pharmacy, Barnsley Transport Interchange - 8.30am - 8pm

Dentists

The Dental Emergency Service is open over the Christmas/New Year Bank Holiday period.

Patients are reminded that this service is accessed by telephone call only and that a walk in service is not provided.

The Dental Emergency number is: 0845 155 0845

It will operate: 
Christmas Day - 11am - 2pm
Boxing Day - 12.30pm - 5pm
New Years Day - 12.30pm - 5pm

Bins

Grey Bins

Collections that fall on:

Tuesday 25 December will now be collected Saturday 22 December

Wednesday 26 December will now be collected Monday 24 December

Tuesday 1 January will now be collected Monday 31 December

Recycling (brown and blue bins/ bags)

Collections that fall on:

Tuesday 25 December will be collected Saturday 22 December

Wednesday 26 December will be collected Monday 24 December

Tuesday 1 January will be collected Saturday 29 December

There will be no green bin collections during the festive period.

Buses and Trains

Christmas Eve Monday 24 December 
A Saturday service will operate until around 7pm

Christmas Day Tuesday 25 December
No buses will operate.

Boxing Day Wednesday 26 December 
No buses will operate

Thursday 27 December
A Saturday service will operate with an additional journey on service 6 at 05:45 from Barnsley

Friday 28 December 
A Saturday service will operate with an additional journey on service 6 at 05:45 from Barnsley

Saturday 29 December
A normal Saturday service will operate.

Sunday 30t December
A normal Sunday service will operate.

New Year's Eve 
A Saturday service will operate until around 7pm

New Year's Day 
No buses will operate.

From Wednesday 2 January 2013
All services will operate as normal.

Gritting

Barnsley Council has record levels of rock salt this year - over 11,700 tonnes.

It will precautionary grit 48 per cent of Barnsley’s roads when needed as well as local shopping areas, outside doctors surgeries and schools, OAP sheltered housing complexes and OAP bungalow estates.

To request a road be gritted, or arrange for a grit bin to be filled, go here.


Barnsley Connects and libraries

Monday 24 December - Close at 4pm

Tuesday 25 December – CLOSED

Wednesday 26 December – CLOSED

Monday 31 December - Close at 4pm

Tuesday 1 January 2013 – CLOSED

Cudworth, Kendray and Roundhouse will also be closed on December 27, 28 and 29

Priory Library will close at 12 noon on 24 December and reopens on 2 January 2013

Thanks for that - if I hadn't read this I wouldn't have known to put my grey bin out on Monday instead of Wed and would have missed it for another 2 weeks! Cheers - keep up the good work you guys :)

I live at new lodge our bins should have been emptied on Saturday according to what you have put on but they are still sat in the street waiting has anybody any idea when/ if they will be getting emptied anytime soon

my grey bin should have been emptied on Friday and instead they emptied my neighbors green bin after telling her that was the one they were emptying. I thought the green bins were not being done for a few weeks?
So when are they being emptied because there is rubbish being blown all over my street
