Train Delay After Man On Track Arrested

Friday September 23 2011

TRAINS from Barnsley running to Sheffield are delayed by up to one hour due to a police incident in Wombwell that has now been resolved.

Earlier this morning, British Transport Police - assisted by air ambulance and the police helicopter - flocked to the train line amid reports that a man had been hit by a train on the tracks.

It caused delays for rail users as trains were stopped while police investigated.

A man has now been arrested for trespassing on the rail lines and trains are now running. A spokesman for British Transport Police told We Are Barnsley there has been no injuries.

A spokesman for British Transport Police added: “Officers were called to the line close to White Cross Lane, on Friday, 23 September at 9.25am following the report of a man on the tracks.

“A search of the area was carried out together with South Yorkshire Police and a man was located nearby.

“A 27-year-old from Barnsley was arrested on suspicion of obstructing the railway and has been taken into custody.”

He should be made to pay the cost of the Hellicopers that would stop him doing it again, it must have cost well over £10,000 for this operation to be resolved and if it was just a stunt by him he should pay the full cost
