Remembrance Day Parades Across Barnsley - 2012

REMEMBRANCE Day events are being held across Barnsley in honour of the service men and women who have fought for us.

A series of events have been organised:

On Remembrance Sunday, everyone is invited join the Mayor, The Royal British Legion, veterans and service representatives for the traditional service of remembrance at the war memorial in front of Barnsley Town Hall. The service will start at 11am with a two-minute silence. Public are asked to be in place by 10.50am.


Remembrance Service at the Church of Nazarene, Sheffield Road at 6pm on November 11. 

Barnsley's Central Library is inviting locals to come in and plant a virtual poppy. All day.

Rolling road closures will be in place around Penistone town centre area on Sunday, 11 November, 10.30am to 12.15pm to allow the Royal British Legion (Penistone Branch) to take part in a Remembrance Parade.

Church Street, Sadler Gate, St Mary’s Gate, Barnsley will be closed for the full length from 10.30am to noon for a Remembrance Day service on November 11.

High Street, Dodworth will be closed from Barnsley Road to Strafford Walk on November 11 to allow for an Armistance Day parade.

High Street, Monk Bretton will be closed from the start of the Methodist Chapel on High Street to the war memorial on Cross Street then continuing to St Paul's Church from 10.45am to 11.30am for a Remembrance Day parade on November 11.

On 12 November, the Mayor and members from the Barnsley branch of The Royal British Legion will join children from schools close to the town centre for a schools remembrance event at the War Memorial outside Barnsley Town Hall.

After a two-minute silence at 11am, children will lay their own handmade wreaths alongside those from the day before.

Whether or not people can get to a parade, I do hope that everyone pauses for a moment or two on the 11th to remember.

Thurnscoe will holding its annual remembrance service at 10.50am at the memorial in the park. Similar services will be held around all the villages in the Dearne area of Barnsley.

I will stand at 11.00 am on the 11th day of the 11th mth and not only remember the lost heroes n their family but also to give thanks that my 2 boys came home when so many others did not .
