A BARNSLEY man who runs a not-for-profit company delivering sport in schools and the community is in line for a national award.

Former PE teacher Darren Padgett founded Team Activ last year and has been shortlisted for an Unsung Hero honour at the Daily Telegraph School Sport Matters Awards.

Darren, whose company now employs 14 people from its base at Shaw Lane Sports and Social Club, will travel to the Daily Telegraph ceremony at Lords Cricket Ground on November 14.

Darren said: "There has been much debate about how to deliver effective sport in schools so it’s fantastic that an organisation like Team Activ, and the role it plays in delivering quality sports activities for children, is being recognised at a national level.”

Team Activ ploughs all its profits back into its programmes and by 2017, the social enterprise aims to re-invest £250,000 into community based sports activities for Yorkshire children.
