Monday October 22 2012
NEW statistics have shown that Barnsley Market is booming with more traders than ever taking stalls.
Latest figures show that all stalls in the market halls and semi-open market, off Cheapside, are fully let (over 300 in total.)
And the open market is performing at its strongest for several years, with nine out of 10 stalls on the Tuesday second-hand market occupied by sellers.
Meanwhile, 85 per cent of stalls are taken on the Saturday market.
Anne Untisz, town centre services manager, said: “Over the last few weeks we have seen a significant increase in the number of enquiries for open market stalls and for vacant shop units in the Metropolitan Centre.
"Eight prospective new businesses have approached us to try to secure new premises in Barnsley town centre.”
The market, which was established more than 700 years ago, has over 300,000 visitors a month.
