Work Restarts On Burton Road After Land Row
Thursday October 18 2012
WORK is due to restart on finishing the Barnsley quality bus corridor after a land dispute halted the development.
Work on the junction of Wakefield Road, Burton Road and Old Mill Lane stopped following a row over a piece of land on the Wickes' site.
The council and landowners Aberdeen Asset Management had been locked in talks over a price for the land on the corner of Burton Road and Old Mill Lane.
Coun Roy Miller said an agreement had been reached and he expected work to start soon.
He said: "Everything has been agreed now and all the documents have been sent.
"It's just a matter of getting everything back, that's all we are waiting for.
"We are desperate to get on and hope we can start works again as soon as possible."
Delays to work have led to complaints by businesses which are considering claims against the council for loss of earnings.
