Work Restarts On Burton Road After Land Row

Thursday October 18 2012

WORK is due to restart on finishing the Barnsley quality bus corridor after a land dispute halted the development.

Work on the junction of Wakefield Road, Burton Road and Old Mill Lane stopped following a row over a piece of land on the Wickes' site.

The council and landowners Aberdeen Asset Management had been locked in talks over a price for the land on the corner of Burton Road and Old Mill Lane.

Coun Roy Miller said an agreement had been reached and he expected work to start soon.

He said: "Everything has been agreed now and all the documents have been sent.

"It's just a matter of getting everything back, that's all we are waiting for.

"We are desperate to get on and hope we can start works again as soon as possible."

Delays to work have led to complaints by businesses which are considering claims against the council for loss of earnings.

Good to see all the little things, like who actually owns the land, were sorted out BEFORE work was started...

Barnsley Quallity Bus Corridors... Maybe making the bloody bus lane lights change when the bus arrives at them is a good start. Buses can get stuck up 2 two minutes in the bus lanes on Wakefield Rd and at PC World

If you want to know the cost of settling the dispute just write a letter and ask. Should be provided under the freedom of information act.

As far as I know everything was sorted out before work began, which is why the work got started. I believe it was Wickes' that have caused the delay as they were holding out for more money that was originally agreed to cut thru their piece of land to finish this project.....glad its back on track now thou! Coz no sooner will that be finished, there will be even more Roadworks just further up the road when this new supermarket starts to get built!!
