Spate Of Mirror Thefts Prompt Police Warning
Thursday October 18 2012
WING mirrors are being stolen from Mini Cooper cars in what police have described as an 'unusual' spate of thefts.
It is thought thieves are targeting the door mirrors as an unlikely source of cash to sell second hand.
Police said a number of cars had been targeted in Wombwell.
Sgt Phil Jenkins, of Wombwell Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "It appears someone must have a source to be able to steal them and sell them on.
"Wing mirrors for this type of car are quite expensive and you are talking maybe £200 to £300 to replace a pair of them.
"The main concern is if a member of the public has one of these, they need to try and secure them the best way they can."
Sgt Jenkins said the mirrors were identifiable as they have serial numbers printed on them.
Any incidents should be reported to the police.
