FOUR houses that are so delapidated they are said to be a blight on their community are to be demolished by the council.

The owners of the homes on Welland Crescent have been warned the council will move in within the month to take action.

The action against numbers 46, 48, 102 and 104 as well as part of the gardens of number 44 has come about as they have been set on fire, had their windows smashed and been severely vandalised.

The council has received approval by the Government to take them over following the refusal of property owners to sell them.

The council is now serving its final notices and is looking to enter the houses towards the end of this month to remove utility services.

Michael Dugher, MP, said: "It seems that an end to this long-running problem is finally in sight. The derelict properties are in a dangerous state and have been a magnet for vandals and fly tippers."
